RP:Ernest's First Proper Hit Contract

From HollowWiki

Ernest received a message from Blut saying to meet him in the Chapel of Rest. What Blut didn't know was that Ernest tends to make a statement when he enters a room...

Chapel of Rest

Ernest was not known for being stealthy. Matter of fact, one could really only call him an assassin because technically he does kill people for a living, yes, but back when he was alive he would always make a big show out of it. He'd ride into town on a dark horse, kick open the door of whatever tavern his target happened to be drinking in and challenge them to a quick-draw contest. (Spoiler alert: Ernest was one of the fastest draws he knew.) Ernest, however, hadn't been mobile for about ten years now, and his body had mummified. So he couldn't quite bust into places with quite the same force that he usually could. It didn't change his attitude, though. Both doors to the chapel swung open as the mummy shoved them apart, protesting funeral directors and staff trailing behind him--the sheer audacity and purpose in his walk had stalled them long enough to let the figure get past them. Why were they protesting, you ask? Because when a mummified corpse walks into a funeral hall, decked out in a wide-brimmed black hat, riding boots and a long black trench coat that glows faintly around the edges, it tends to appear as though an avatar of death itself is walking into the building. Understandably, this might freak out anybody inside who might be trying to have a proper funeral.

Blut sat on a chair at the very back gave him a very good view of the man who walked inside. Blut spoke up as he looked at the men "don't worry I'll look after him" Blut assured as he got up. The black and tattred cloak shrouded his face even as a member of the living many did mistake him for a ghost his eyes visible from beyond his mask with a very faint crimson glow. Even the way he walked seemed ghostly compared to Ernest it seemed as if Blut just phased into the room as he walked up to Ernest. "Show these mourners some respect and come with me I'll even treat you to a drink." Blut asked quitely voice void of any form of emotion as he pointed the way.

Ernest blinked slowly and tilted his head a little. "Whhhy hhheeeere thennnn?" he groaned, turning to go back out the way he came, his voice as dry as his skin--dusty and leathery-sounding. He hadn't yet found a good way to keep it properly usable--drinking water just made him sound all gargly. "Can ssskip th'drinnnk. Noooo nnneeeed." He gestured to himself and pulled aside his longcoat, which was hiding the gaping hole in his chest where a heart used to beat. The guy was pretty much existing purely by sheer force of will at this point.

The Whaler's Bar

Blut sighed at the brovado as he lead the man to the tavern. "Because your on the list of guest and most people don't tend to kick down the doors of a funneral they just open them." Blut shook his head "honestly if you didn't draw so much attention to yourself we might have just been able to talk there but now that everyones seen you and your act do you belive they are just gonna leave us alone." Blut repremanded after which he just sighed again "look I wish to offer you a deal where you could walk out with alot of money and very powerful friends." Blut paused as the pair arrived at the tavern takeing his hood down revealing a illusionary face of a regular human his eyes still crimson but not glowing.

Ernest followed behind, a little confused. Act? What act? This outfit was his life. He loved the attention it collected. And he hadn't kicked the doors down--well, not this time. He'd just opened them very dramatically and stalked forward like he owned the place. It was his own little personal touch to entering... well, basically any building, really. If Blut hadn't been the first one in the door, he'd have done the same thing here, too. "Liiiisteninnnng," he said, though someone else had also made an offer of this sort and he'd wound up with a weird energy bond type thing that he was probably going to end up having to kill someone over. He was, therefore, understandably a little skeptical--but, the friends would be nice to have for tracking down the Blue Demon.

Blut sits at the front desk and kicks out a chair for Ernest to sit on. "I'm not sure how much you know about Cenril so let me give you the short version this city isn't run by a actual goverment but by gangs the strongest gang has the most control in the city. The strongest gang right now has to be haut Monde due to their connections and alliance with rings of gluttony. But that means their a treasure trove of information about the corrupt and where to hit them." Blut smiled as he pulled out a decorated dagger showing the bloodied triad symbol "I'm a gang leader myself my gangs called the blooded triad. If you join us and help us to tear our enemies down you will be rewarded handsomely and have access to all of our resources includeing members and data." Blut retracted the dagger back into his sleeve as he pulled out a ruby and tilted his head "what do you say want to help with our cause" Blut asked with a small smile.

Ernest made a face. Gang warfare was exactly the sort of thing in which he liked to not be entangled. Tended to make the consequences more severe if the lawmen decided to get you. "I got mmmy own caaauuuse," he answered, sitting down slowly and leaning an elbow on the desk, resting his head in his palm. "Iiiif you haaaave ssssomethinnnng -particularrr- nnneeded donnne, I can assisssst." Sure he'd help--as a contractor, for payment. But getting caught up in someone else's war when you have your own to wage is a little very much unprofitable in the long run.

Blut smiled as he closed his hand around the ruby before opening his hand revealing gems among his fingers. "Glad to see your offering I'd rather see if your quality is up to standard I'm offering you 1500 gold if you can take down a Haut Monde captain dureing a slave fight, I don't really care if you save the slaves I just want the book that carry the names of all their guest and the ring of the captain." Blut took out a book and a ring from his cloak showing Ernest exactly what he has to bring him. "This book is what the gang keeps track of their guest without drawing attention to them." Blut held up the ring showing the Haut Monde symbol on it "all captains wear this ring bring me the ring and the book I'd do this myself but my team have other missions to deal with and the rest of the gang have their own responsibilitys to tend to." Blut left the gems on the table "these gems will sell for 500 gold return with what I want and you get the rest understand?" Blut asked.

Ernest raised an eyebrow as he swiped his hand over the gems, depositing them into his pocket. "Yesss," he said, though there was something unfinished about the whole thing. "I neeeed a naaaame," he said. "Which onnne will beeee aaaat th'fight?" After all, you can't just bust into a guy's office like death himself if you don't have the name of the guy you're dragging down to the pit with you. It just works better that way. "I expect you'll aaaalso paaaay expensessss," he added. He had a couple of really good ideas, most of which involved smoke bombs.

Blut smiled "he's name for this captain is Marcus Firefox son of the Firefox if you need anything paid for speak to Darius over here however if what your asking for isn't within our budget or simply not acceptable in our eyes your on your own." Blut motioned for Darius to bring him a drink "once your done with your mission hand the goods to Darius and he'll give you the rest of the gold and arrange for you to meet me again." Darius returned with Bluts drink eyeing Ernest cautiously before returning to his bar tending tendencies.

Ernest nodded. "Gooood doinnn' buuusinesss," he said, then got up and went to the bar to speak with Darius. Best to get this out of the way fast, since he was here. "Smoooke boooombs," he said, leaning on the bar. "At leeeast fiiiive. Preferablyyyy moooore." This was not going to be a subtle job. Nothing Ernest ever did was subtle. It was going to be theatrical--a performance piece--and the entire Haut Monde was going to be convinced that Vakmatharas himself had sent an agent after the soul of Marcus Firefox.

Blut got up as he motioned Darius to come with him as he left the bar. Blut threw Ernest a pack of his smoke bombs it was filled with 10 smoke bombs. Blut looked at Ernest with a killer glare "do not fail me" Blut warned as a woman got up to join him and Darius as they left the bar.
