Part of the Time Heals All Wounds Arc

This is a Healer's Guild RP.

Synopsis: Okay, so, here we go. A few days after Leon Lovik from Ardelia comes, Kailani appears at Penelope's door. Why? Emilia is why. The two begin to talk a little, and Penelope realizes what Kailani wants to focus on, however, that is short-lived due to the state of the Ardelian boy. Penelope is in search for yarrow, but the truth of the matter is, yarrow is rare this time of year, though Kailani remembers that Callum is a botanist, so the two agree that they need to seek him out before they travel on a quest to find the plant. It's getting real dawg. Also, can I say that Penelope is just lying through her teeth with Sofia about her deceased twin brother? Yikes.

Kelay Healer

While Kailani was not the sort to seek out company in the form of friendship, half of the point of her being in the Healer's Guild is to try and expand upon her current knowledge...Which means that she is going to have to get out there and make an active attempt to meet other guild members. As overwhelming as the hermit found their last meeting, it at the very least gave her a sense of who else might be in the guild and what their personality types might be. Some of the guild members were more bubbly and energetic than others. Penelope gave off a more down to earth vibe, putting her higher up on the list of people to try and meet with. It did not take her much effort to learn the places that Penelope tended to frequent, it seemed that this healer in particular made no secret of where she might be found. Which made sense to Kailani, it would not serve the population well if they were always hard pressed to locate someone to help tend to their illnesses or injuries. The blue haired woman has little trouble locating the hut within the forest, what she does struggle with is how to proceed now that she is here. Is she supposed to just up and knock on the door? What if Penelope was with a patient? So, Kailani stands outside awkwardly while she tries to assess the situation more clearly.

It had been several days that had passed since the villagers had threw the woman through an entire other whirlwind. Most people who worked close to her would probably wonder if she had slept as she was up and active constantly stewing over the Ardelian boy covered in foreign runes and studying the mysterious octagram pyramid that held a secret to the boys’ cure. Besides the magically enclosed pyramid, was the list of ingredients that were a rare find, but the woman would probably have to make an elixir which was… not in her expertise. The physician, either way, keeps her distance from the boy who is cooped in one of the cots inside the hut. The foreign eight year old was covered with a curtain to keep others from worrying about his condition. Penelope Halifax, instead, sits outside in the light on a nearby stump with a fat, red-leathered book open. There were different botanical drawings within the parchment pages and descriptions. A large sigh makes her lips vibrate in her exaggeration. “Why are people so stupid?” She mumbles under her breath. “Let’s destroy people in Lithrydel. Let’s go ahead and corrupt souls and take them over in ordinary elves. Let’s just go and take a little boy from a village and put him on his death bed so the chief will just feel ever-so miserable,” she throws a few hands in crazy gesture, and with that, she slams the book shut. She was talking to herself, Kailani. You sure she is down to earth? In that moment, anyway, she looks up and sees the blue-haired woman. The frizzy-haired girl squints and rises before putting on that calm expression she always wore—even though her mind was on fire. This is fine. “Hey I’ve seen you… Kailani, right? You were at the meeting,” a small smile grows on her face to mean no harm.

Jokes could probably be made about how Kailani was starting to wonder about her assessment of Penelope...but really, a half-elf with blue hair who lives a solitary lifestyle has experienced much judgement in her years, she is usually hard pressed to judges others in the same way. Or at least, whatever judgement is passed is done so equally, as Kailani's words will soon reveal, "Because they are, it is why I prefer the forests over people any day." The rest of what Penelope was muttering about? Kailani could not interpret with clear understanding. Whatever Penelope was muttering about was clearly important, it is just the druid is missing a few too many details to really have any clarity on what Penelope is speaking of...so the other healer receives no commentary from Kailani. "Yes. My name is Kailani, we did indeed meet at the meeting. Though Emilia has advised that I attempt to meet with you prior to that." As both Kailani and Penelope were outside, the druid is unaware of the presence of this young boy. That does not matter though, "Though it seems perhaps my arrival is not at an ideal time. You seem very busy working on...something, evidently a something that involves stupid people."

Penelope brushed a hand through her unkempt hair in a brief, sheepish mannerism as Kailani overheard the woman. She speaks of Emilia. “Me? Why, flattering. Come inside. I can make us some tea. Busy is an understatement, but I can use the company and take my mind off of a few tasks. Perhaps you can help me, anyway. And maybe, I, you.” she then brushes past Kailani and holds the door to the hut open to let the woman enter first, if the blue-haired woman did, she would enter right behind. The healer would walk straight to the fire that was nestled inside the small hut. Inside, rested a copper-haired woman in a rocking chair next to the curtain with the shadowed Ardelian boy. The copper-haired woman appeared to be around Penelope’s age—Sofia Ulberg. Hazel eyes from Sofia Ulberg would give off a friendly gaze as she rocks back and forth, though the room sort of had an eerie sense with the quiet of the hut. Only crackles of the fire, a hidden coughing boy, and a creaking rocking chair. “So, Emilia sent you. At the meeting you seemed very short which I don’t blame you. It was sort of an oddly dynamic bunch, wasn’t it? What’s your focus? Do you have one?”

Kailani's blue brows are furrowed together as she follows Penelope inside, trying to analyze how the other might feel as though she was short and why she was asking about her focus again. In Kailani's perception, she was actually very revealing in her answer. "I am a druid," Kailani repeats her answer from the meeting, but now that it has been made clear to her that this answer may not be clear, she expands. "I have not met too many others like myself, so I suppose that I cannot speak for every single druid when I attempt to define it...But for me? Balance is important." The druid lifts both of her hands, palms facing up, and mimics the motions of the scales. "As I tend to spend most of my time within the forests, I would hope that I have managed to develop a decent knowledge base in both plants and animals. This knowledge of plants lends directly to my abilities as a non-magical healer. However, elemental magic and magical healing are not out of my scope of capabilities. Though I would not be the first to claim to be any sort of expert in the area of magical healing. That is an area that I need to improve upon." Even as Kailani is explaining this, her blue eyes are coming to rest upon the copper-haired woman in the room. The druid suddenly felt a bit odd carrying on a conversation so freely given the eerie sense of quiet that had filled it only moments before. At least the druid had the sense to acknowledge Sofia, there were some limitations to her social awkwardness. Sort of. "Hi," she says to Sofia before letting her gaze trail back to Penelope.

Penelope does not look Kailani’s way as she places a pot of water to boil over the fire. Balance. Balance was important, and the woman’s mossy eyes look at the fellow druid. “I find that people like you are rare. Hiding silently within nature’s domain. You, however, are not alone,” she leans up. “Plants we have in common… maybe my knowledge smaller than yours. The magic that you need to improve on, is something that I have to improve upon, as well, for… like you, I have struggled to find people like us.” Bingo. Penelope was a druid. Not a blatant one due to the way she was raised. In that moment, Sofia speaks out. “Hi,” she echoes in return. “Miss Halifax is a seeking druid looking for a magical mentor until she finds her brother,” her deceased brother, yet no one in this room knew that, of course. “You might be a great asset to each other,” the copper-haired Ardelain says while rocking, though this is short-lived as Penelope cuts in. “What Sofia means to say is, my magic is hard to access. I never got the chance to learn from the druidic village I was born into. I am good, however, with surgical aspects of healing. Learning what to do on the spot. Trauma, if you may. Good on the battlefield,” the freckled healer turns as the water begins to boil and she takes it off of the flames. “Perhaps we can learn a thing or two from each other. One being a rare sort of achillea millefolium—yarrow. Not sure where it grows… it helps internal bleeding. You ever heard of that type?” The woman pours the water in three cups to seep the tea. She would then hold the warm cup out for Kailani. “Spicy gingerroot tea. Digestive health, y’know?”

Kailani's vivid blue eyes shift back toward Sofia, a look of surprise shifting across her features with how forthright the woman is. It was not bad though, it was actually quite refreshing to the woman who is often not one for words. As Penelope goes on, a smirk begins to pull at Kailani's lips. The druid cannot help but find humor in the situation. Just moments ago she was commenting on how she has not met too many other druids, and it turns out that she is perhaps standing in the presence of another druid. "We can try," Kailani states simply in regards to attempting to help Penelope gain an understanding of any druidic abilities she might possess. Any lessons would not be taking place at this exact moment, for Penelope is holding out a cup of ginger root tea for Kailani, which the druid accepts....The druid then promptly claims a space on Penelope's floor, much like she did at the park before everyone decided that chairs were the best place to sit. "Digestive health, yes, amongst other benefits." The druid declares before taking a deep sip of the tea. "The trouble with the yarrow is that it is still early in the year for it to grow, which is going to make locating a rare plant even more challenging. It prefers more temperate climates. I have seen it in the wild lands on occasion, but usually not for another month or two...And I am assuming that if you need it for internal bleeding, you will need it sooner than a month or two..."

Penelope watches as Kailani sits on the floor. The healer is about to join the druid, but she holds off at the druid’s explanation of the plant. “I figured so… reading the book that you heard me fussing over earlier.” The woman grits her teeth before backing towards the curtain. Sofia sort of leans up on her rocking chair as she is now invested in the conversation. Penelope stands at the curtain where the coughing boy is. “Unfortunately, I do need it in about a month or two…” She then draws back the blue curtain revealing the boy with the burnt runes within his skin. “Meet Leon Lovik, the son of the chief in the village of Ardelia.” The Ardelian twin introduces the slumbered boy who rests under the covers. The hut was quiet, and the travels that Sofia and Leon made were far that it took a toll on his body, so he was fast asleep. “I’ve been researching plants that I was given in a list. Three. One is the yarrow,” she pauses with a furrow in her brow. “The fourth is… magically sworn off in a… vault only meant for certain blood. That’s where my twin and I come in.” Maybe. He’s dead, but she keeps the act up anyway. “I think I need to make an elixir? I’m not sure… but I know I have the list of ingredients. I’m just trying to go in order… Is it possible to find the herb in a reasonable time-frame?” The woman then closes the curtain before Kailani could really look at the runes and wake the boy. She wanted the boy to rest, so she sits down on the floor opposite of the druid in polite gesture.

Kailani could only assume that Penelope was concerned about the ingredients she actually expanded upon: the yarrow and whatever item was sealed up in that vault. The druid is left to ascertain that Penelope's twin is probably alive, but maybe he is not willing to help with the vault? Penelope seemed nervous about it, either way. Pressing for further details is not something that Kailani is going to do as she and Penelope are not familiar enough with one another as of yet. The druid does not sugar coat her answer, "I believe that you already know the answer to your own question based on the information that you have. It is not no, but it will be a hard search. The only answer that I can give is that we can try. And if we are successful, then we should strive to add this plant to someone's garden." The word garden sends a lightbulb off in Kailani's mind, "It may also be worth the effort to inquire with some private gardens, though if the plant is rare I am sure they would not part with it cheaply....But perhaps Callum. During introductions, he did mention botanist, no? If he does not, then we will have no choice but to search the wildlands...The only upside we have to this is that we do not need to find a mature plant per say..." Because, you know, druid.

Penelope remains stoic due to the distress that she resisted to show. “Right,” she coos as she places the mug to her lips in contemplation at the druid’s words. “We’ll have to try. That’s all we could do,” she lowers the mug while using a finger to circle around the rim of the clay-shaped mug. Then, Callum enters the conversation. Her mind reflects on the dapper dressed man and her doe-eyes light up. “Callum. He also mentioned elixirs, didn’t he? I think that seeking him out first would be the best that we could do until worst comes and… perhaps luck will seek us?” She exhales uneasily. The physician then realizes that Kailani was mentioning ‘we’, and a small relaxed smile plays across her pale lips. “So, you’ll come with me? We will plan a day to seek him out? I remember my friend Lanara talking about him and working for him. Perhaps I can try to find her sister to find his place? She knows Lanara better than I do, and well, closest lead where to actually find him.”

Kailani finishes off the last couple of sips of her tea. While the druid might have a preference for sitting upon the floor, as she was closer to the earth that way, she was not the sort to just leave an empty dish on the floor. It is placed on a nearby table as the druidic woman pushes herself up to her feet in preparation to leave. "I will. I tend to frequent the Chartsend area, but I also have a space within the Sanctum of the Divine. I cannot say which is better to send word to, but I will make a point to be sure to check for further details." She might suck to get ahold of, given she has no real permanent place of residence, but at least she was mindful that she should not disappear into the forests for an extended period of time right now. "With all of that in mind, I will be on my way not. I am sure I will be hearing from you soon. We will work out details on any druidic lessons after the boy has been helped."

Penelope gives off a smile in gratitude and rises as Kailani does. The woman places her mug on a nearby table as well. She would deal with the dishes later. “I will try to send word, or seek for you.” The woman almost thinks about extending her bandaged hand out, but she refrains. Instead, she nods with a small close of her eyes in graciousness. “Thank you, Kailani. I’m very, very fortunate you stopped by. To meet another druid is a fortune.” The frizzy-haired woman then nears towards the door to lead Kailani on her next destination. “Ardelia is one that is in your hands, I suppose. We thank you. And, yes, druidic lessons can, and will, wait. Take care,” the woman says in a genuine tone. As the blue-haired druid would wander out of the hut, she would turn to Sofia with an expression that showed hope. “Lady Ulberg. I find that the Gods of the Divine may be perhaps in our favor.” The door of the hut would close and the eerie quietness of the hut, and instantly, Penelope recognizes a ray of light through a nearby window.
