Part of the Vakmatharas' Jar Arc

Summary: Raven meets Kreekitaka on her way to right her wrong.

Orderly Street

Mainly composed of homes, this street is quieter and less crowded than the other streets that surround Schezerade’s central fountain. Avians are still seen walking to and fro on errands, and several head to the lavish tavern to the east.

Raven is moving through the streets with her security detail, for some reason Schezerade is not affected anymore by the curse, but since Raven was summoned within Brennia a month ago now her campaign manager thought it would be best if she had been kept in the dark about the Jar until they won the campaign. “You keep having these assumptions of what I can and cannot handle or what I should or should not know,” her velvety monotone voice speaks at Corvo. “You are already on thin ice and trust me when I say that if there is one more mess up, I’m not going to have any issues to rid you of your position.” Although her Bardic powers have significantly dwindled there was intimidation hanging on the hair and all the campaign manager does is nod, “now, we are going to only focus on this issue until it is resolved. I will end this because it seems I am what started it. Understood?” He nods.

Kreekitaka had been here only once before, and shenanigans had ensued then. Since his people were too fear-stricken to leave their homes, he was forced to come alone. It wasn't pleasant, being without an honor guard, and the crab wasn't looking like he had during the fight, either. With no imminent violence to help soothe his nerves, that gnawing fear at the back of his mind kept worming its way deeper into his brain. His paddles were flattened, his arms tucked against his body as if to seem smaller than he was. Perhaps admitting weakness to Lionel had been the wrong move. Saying it out loud made it real. He remembered--Brennia had come into his shop several times before, and he had assisted her with the bard's college. At the fight, something had seemed strange about her, but he couldn't quite place his claws on what. When he spotted her on the street, he hurried over, taking a moment and rolling his shoulders, trying to puff himself back up again. It... didn't entirely work, he still glanced over his shoulder and shifted nervously in place. "Brennia, I am gyaDAH! TAH!oo have founDAH! you," he started, setting right into it without giving her opportunity to correct him. "Yionoh says you have someHHHTHing nameDAH! 'VakmaHHHTHaras's Jar, an' HHHTHaTAH! iTAH! is whaTAH! is pyaguing my peopo wiHHHTH a vicious DAH!isease of HHHTHe minDAH!." Right to business, as there was no time to lose.

Raven looks up at the large crustacean who won a fight with vigor, the guards are set on edge, but a subtle wave of her hand told them to back down, give the guy some space and they did. “Please, I’m not nearly as great as Brennia. Address me as Raven,” he’s also plagued, her heavy lidded eyes watch his body language, “I understand.” She crosses her fist over her heart and bowed to Kree, “welcome to Schezerade, thank you for coming all this way. I was actually on my way to get some special musical instruments enchanted, recruit some more Bards, and buckle down to compose the song we will need to counter all of these curses. I promise, the people will not suffer much longer,” she seems so confident, so certain and her eyes, although they look bored, glint in determination. This was a woman on a mission.

Kreekitaka paused, then. This wasn't Brennia? But she looked just like Brennia. "I am gyaDAH! TAH!oo hear iTAH!." Maybe she was pretending to be someone else? Going undercover, for some reason? "I was informeDAH! HHHTHaTAH! aochemicoh services may be requireDAH!.? My faHHHTHer, an' oHHHTHers of my peopo I know, have some knowyedge of such TAH!echniques, an' I have Muzo in my empyoy, a very compeTAH!anTAH! aochemisTAH!. I wanTAH! HHHTHis curse gone, removeDAH! as soon as possibo, an' so I am here TAH!oo acquire ao HHHTHe information abouTAH! HHHTHis DAH!evice so as TAH!oo have iTAH! broken ao HHHTHe fasTAH!er." A song element, too. That might be important. "A song, you say? If you are in neeDAH! of percussion, you can finDAH! no beTAH!er HHHTHan my uyeer."

Raven nods along with agreements of, “yes.” And, “of course.” Apparently Raven found a log of the summit she held with other important figures of Lithrydel a while back so she’s able to divulge, “the jar. It was created by necromancers to bring forth the essence of Vakmatharas by sacrificing a master bard of the time. It was only able to be opened during an eclipse by a bard of the same power. At that time it was Brennia, but it was her hidden power, Raven, to which the prophecy allowed the curses to be unleashed. I know what you may be thinking, but I do not possess such power anymore.” Yes she’s the ‘Raven’ from the prophecy, “I shall need your help. To help carry the sound all over Lithrydel. Bard guild members told me that Alvina the Silver and Brennia were working out a way that each afflicted town would get a bard placed there and at a certain time of night during a new moon we would activate the counter spellsong. Drums could help link every area together, is that something we can accomplish?”

Kreekitaka thought that over, ignoring all this nonsense about hidden powers and prophecies, focusing on the idea of linking every area together. Underwater, where sound carried much farther and faster, there was certainly a way, but--wait, that might do it. "I may require some specioh DAH!evices an' more drummers HHHTHan I suspecTAH!eDAH!, however I beyeev I may have a way TAH!oo provide severoh areas wiHHHTH near-perfecTAH! synchronization." Oh, he can say that, but he can't say "believe". "In orDAH!er TAH!oo communicaTAH! TAH!oo far-away pyaces, in my home, we use DAH!iscarDAH!eDAH! whayoh heaDAH!s TAH!oo hepp us projecTAH! sounDAH! wiHHHTHouTAH! drowning everyone ouTAH!. HHHTHey are fasTAH! an' have extreme range. If we can figure ouTAH! a way TAH!oo make HHHTHem work in HHHTHe air, an' DAH!eveyop receivers, a centroh drummer in Fros'maw coulDAH! seTAH! a TAH!empo for HHHTHe conTAH!inenTAH!."

Raven quirks a brow, “hm… I have heard of a tinkermage living here in Schezerade, if that would help, although - I have never seen him. He has some add in the local paper, Wisax Wewiframe? Is his name, I think,” she definitely butchered the fella’s name with her subtle accent. “What would you need from me to help you with this? Gold? Materials? Assistants? Or something more beneficial… An alliance between our cities?”

Kreekitaka suddenly perked up even more at this thought. Another alliance? In exchange for something he was going to do anyway just to be rid of this curse? How could he pass that up? "Io yook inTAH!oo him. An ayiance, you say?" He had to stop himself from rubbing his claws together like a mastermind. With winged warriors on his side, what -couldn't- he accomplish? "I have much money, an' I am sure wiHHHTH iTAH! I can buy or hire HHHTHe oHHHTHer TAH!oo iTAH!ems on your yisTAH!, however, an ayiance is cerTAH!ain TAH!oo benefiTAH! us boHHHTH." While he was at it: "My usuoh TAH!erms are pyacemenTAH! of a shop in a prominenTAH! yocation an' inves'menTAH! power in yocoh business. Aoso, I woulDAH! ask for unrestricTAH!eDAH! access TAH!oo your yibrary. HHHTHe avians have much knowyedge sTAH!oreDAH! here, an' if I am TAH!oo have such a DAH!evice creaTAH!eDAH!, I'm going TAH!oo neeDAH! as much of iTAH! as I can acquire." There it is. At last, the secrets of flight, at his fingertips. Maybe once this fear thing had been solved, he could win some morale back by proceeding with his space project.

Raven doesn’t see any harm in this, “I do not see why not. A mixing of backgrounds and cultures is what I am to bring to Schezerade. I am sure the aivans would love to have such unique and sought after items right at their wingtips,” haha, she’s clever. “Knowledge? A very noble pursuit, that is something I would never keep from someone,” it was why she was running for council, they were trying to restrict admittance to the colleges here. “How may I contact you once I have the bards and instruments prepared?”

Kreekitaka rippled his paddles at this. Multiple levels of victory at his claws to keep his mind occupied, now. The only thing he had to fear was fear itself, and he was rapidly filling up his plate with enough other things to push fear aside. Good. Very good. "Io yikeyee be near CharTAH!senDAH! in HHHTHe near future. If I am noTAH!, yeave a message aTAH! my DAH!inosaur camp, wiHHHTH HHHTHe orcs Io have hireDAH! whioh my own peopo are... inDAH!isposeDAH!." The message would get to him one way or another, he would be certain of that. "Speaking of CharTAH!senDAH!. I DAH!on'TAH! suppose you have access TAH!oo warriors, here? Rumor has iTAH! HHHTHere is a pyan TAH!oo beseige iTAH! again, an' I am gaHHHTHering DAH!efenDAH!ers."

Raven nods once, “very well. Good luck with that.” She didn’t even know there was a place called Chartsend. “I will seek this Weewframe gentleman out and see what he would be able to do for you.” Corvo clears his throat gently, “I think I’ve seen the entrance to his workshop across of the eastern exit of the libraries.” A tilt of her head, “warriors? Ursula, Florence, Nancy.” Three random guards step forward, “you can take these ladies.” They were men, their names are probably not ladies names either, but Raven cannot stand having so many strangers around her constantly so, “if you’d like. They are quite skilled in combat.” Corvo’s eyes widen, “w-what?! You need them,” Raven holds her hand out to shut him up, “I am more capable than you assume, so shove it.”

Kreekitaka paused. Only three warriors? A whole city, and she could only spare three warriors--wait. She mentioned something about running for a council. So not a whole city. Great. Still, they were allies. A bit of alchemy could make them very useful indeed. After pausing a moment to calculate his response, betrayed only by the twitch of a facial crusher during which Corvo formed a convenient distraction, the uyeer king bowed lightly and lifted his uppermost paddles in respect. "As HHHTHings sTAH!anDAH! now, iTAH! is onyee me an' Yionoh who sTAH!anDAH! in HHHTHe gap, so you have increaseDAH! our number more HHHTHan TAH!wice." He planned on increasing that number even more, but he still had a long way to go. "I am very graTAH!fo for HHHTHe assisTAH!ance, an' I am sure we'o meeTAH! again soon."
