Summary: In an attempt to look to the future, Khitti explains to Kailani a bit about what's going on in the Shadow Plane currently and how she might be able to help.

The Sacrosanct, Sanctum of the Divine

Khitti || Continuously getting bad news from all sides over the past two months was starting to wear Khitti rather thin. So, in an attempt to move forward with… anything at all… Khitti sent word to Kailani to meet her in the Sacrosanct of the Sanctum of the Divine. How does one send a message to a nearly hermit-like druid? Very carefully. And also what the heck does she eat? There were likely to be druids of varying sorts: some carnivores, some herbivores, and almost certainly some omnivores. So, in an attempt to cater to all of that--and because Khitti was seriously starving at this point--she had two small trays put together of sandwich fixings (the meats separated from the veggies juuuuuust in case), sent from the bakery. Khitti, with her lack of ladylike manners dug into it the moment it arrived… but not too much! She hadn’t wanted to seem like she was some sort of ravenous beast with an insatiable hunger that couldn’t save anything for her guest. She’d munch away as she waited for Kailani at the large table in the guild-only area, occasionally taking a drink of the hot tea she’d also had made up.

Kailani :: The hermit like druid does tend to be hard to get ahold of, the best way to do so it to make sure that she is given plenty of advanced notice that she's needed. Honestly though, she is trying to get better about making her presence known in the world. She did get the letter, and she did show up. That is a very impressive start for the very reclusive woman. Kailani's attire is not much different than any other time that Khitti has encountered her. The druid is not dressed for comfort, but for functionality. In the wilds, preparation is key and if one allows themselves to get too lax and comfortable in their setting? Well it is a survival of the fittest world. Kailani arrives donned in her usual leathered armor and with her spear lashed across her back. It was highly unlikely she would encounter trouble here, and yet she was fully prepared for it if that was the case. The blue-haired woman does not have a hard time locating Khitti, or the food that Khitti has brought. What does a hermit-druid like to eat? Well food, just like any other person. Since Khitti is already munching away when Kailani arrives, the druid has no reservations in helping herself to food that is obviously meant to be shared. "Much appreciation for your hospitality," is how Kailani greets Khitti. "How are things?"

Khitti was in the middle of stuffing food into her face when Kailani walked in and offered her greeting. She choked the remainder of her sandwich down, coughed a bit, then managed a smile for the druid, “Hey and you’re welcome. Things are… uh… things.” She side-eyed the table a moment, eyebrows raised and scrunched together a bit as she tried to come up with the proper way of saying what she had on her mind, “So, I’ve got an interesting situation going on at the moment. Uhhh… there’s these two… entities… hybrids of a sort… who are hellbent on entirely wiping out an entire realm with their corruption.” That’s a lot to take in, Khitti. Sheesh. “Basically, they were humans who were fused together with plant matter and turned them into a dryad and a treant. All of it is a very long story but that’s not the important part. The important thing is that they’ve tainted the entire realm that they’ve been in for awhile now. The Shadow Plane. They’ve also corrupted an actual treant that was born there and while I’ve yet to see him physically, I’ve still seen what they’ve done to him and it’s not good.” Khitti rubbed her eyes a bit as she tried to gather her thoughts, “In time, I’m going to need help putting the place right again, and I’ll need to try to heal Emeritus, the latter treant as well if we’re able to. The corruption is stemming from a lake there and branching out everywhere it can reach, which is why, naturally, I thought of you and your affinity for water.

Kailani :: Most social nuances were lost on Kailani, as she has spent so much time living by herself. So it does not really strike her as strange that Khitti launches straight into this story, though it is indeed a lot of take in. The druid furrows her blue brows. One might think that she might have numerous questions given the amount of information that Khitti has just thrown at her....but none are coming. The druid is silent for what is probably an awkward length. "I will help then, to the best of my abilities." It seemed like a no-brainer to Kailani. As a druid, balance was important to her. She did not really have a particularly invested interest in seeing good triumph over evil....nor did she want to see evil triumph over good. What is clear to her though, is the complete corruption of the Shadow Planes, means that one side is starting to tip the balance. Why would she not help? ...Maybe because she does not have a full understanding of what the Shadow Planes are? She has been living in solitude for awhile. Then again, Kailani is older than she looks, maybe she has heard of something in her years? Sorry Khitti, Kailani is clearly a woman of a few words so she's not really giving many clues to her depth of knowledge one way or another.

Khitti was waiting for questions but got none. She’d be relieved if it wasn’t for the fact that she was sure that Kailani was probably extremely confused by some of the things she was saying--pretty much anyone Khitti talked to about the Shadow Plane was anyway. “I’ve got to deal with these hybrids first, before any healing can begin, though. And it might need to be a joint effort between you, and I, and Lanara, who’s another member of the guild--a witch. All forms of magic besides dark are a bit weaker over there, but I’m hoping that maybe with me aiding you two, that it should help.” Khitti wrung her hands idly, fingertips occasionally running over the raised scars that were on both palms. “I’m sorry, this is definitely a lot to take in. Do you have any questions? It’s always a trial trying to get people from Lithrydel to understand what’s going on in this other realm, but moreso from a lack of experiencing what it’s like there and less because of intellect or whatever. I could shove a book I’ve translated myself at you and it still wouldn’t fully prepare you.” The redhead frowned at this thought; she hadn’t wanted to possibly scare the druid off from helping, but she certainly didn’t want her to go into that place not knowing that things are not all that pleasant there.

Kailani finally makes herself comfortable in a chair, only just coming to the realization that her continuing to stand might be a little...weird. Hermits. Of course in order to sit effectively, she'll need to remove her pole arm from it's resting position across her back. It is instead leaned against the table next to Kailani. The druid shrugs. "Well my mind is full of wonder as I have never traveled to the Shadow Planes. It has always been the stuff of legends in my world. But then again, my years have taught me that you can try and describe a place all you want to me, but it will only really do so much to prepare me for being there. It will be up to me to make sure that my other survivals skills are sharp enough for this expedition. With that in mind? Do I have specific questions? I am not sure. I trust that if there is anything of particular note that I will need to be aware of you will appraise me of that as needed when the time comes." The blue-haired woman reaches out with to pluck up another couple of snacks. They are not popped into her mouth until after she is finished speaking. "I am prepared to assist in whatever way you need. If you want support with the hybrids, that is fine. If you want me to help heal the land, that is fine. I also have no real bias who I work with." Also...she is probably not fully aware that people are such witch haters. "Is there anything else that you feel like I need to know?"

Khitti || “We may need your assistance with taking them down as well, but I need to discuss things with my husband now that it’s been some time since he was there. They took him, the first time we went there, after we got pleas for help from the various people that live there. The treant hybrid specifically bent my husband’s mind to his will, using it to trick me and others into thinking it was really him. I need to try to get more information out of him at some point soon. See if these two said anything while he was there. The dryad specifically has the inclination to gloat a bit, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she slipped up at any time.” Khitti leaned over and reached into her satchel that laid on the floor beside her. “I’ll need this back when you’re done with it, of course, but it details the different flora and fauna there, and geography and its people as well. The former is likely more of interest to you than the latter. The animals have basically fled to areas untainted, but I imagine once the corruption is removed, that they’ll move back into their former territories. The plants, however… some of them are highly toxic to people from our world, unless you’re one of the undead. It likely won’t be much of an issue, as I had masks made a couple years ago for my travels there, but it’s best you know about it in advance anyway.” Despite all of this, she offered Kailani a faint smile, “All that aside, you’d at least get to see some place new with an entirely different environment to learn about. In its normal state, the Shadow Plane is definitely an interesting place, albeit a bit, uh… wild.”

Kailani nods as she takes the book. The druid does not dedicate time to flipping through any of the pages at this exact moment, "I will be sure to take good care of this." And it would be studied quite thoroughly. When Khitti tries to find the silver lining in all of this for Kailani, the druid just smirks. It was true, this was definitely a new environment....though both women know well enough that even the lands that they are presently standing upon offer plenty in the way of misadventure and danger. "I do specialize in the wild." After a thoughtful pause, Kailani goes on to explain, "I have not encountered a toxin yet that cannot be counteracted. If you and your husband make any further expeditions into the Shadow Planes...." Perhaps to kick some hybrid butt. "...Then if you are able to safely gather samples to bring back then perhaps I will be able to come up with something to assist us in that area." Because even if everyone is wearing masks because whatever can happen will happen. "Emphasis on perhaps." The druid moves to tuck the book Khitti is loaning to her in her own pack, "In the mean time, I will study your book so that I am as prepared as I can be."

Khitti || “That would be extremely appreciated. In the time I’ve been dealing with that world, I’ve really not had time to sit down and try to figure out that aspect of things. I’ve been jumping from one thing to the next practically since day one there.” Or she’d been dead. Or kidnapped. Or… yeah you get the picture. Khitti wasn’t going to reveal these things to Kailani though. It wouldn’t do to have -all- of her guildmembers know that she’s prone to getting snatched up like a tiny fluffy creature being carried off by a hawk. “If you find that you need more explanation on things, you know where to find me.” She paused, considering whether or not to maybe open up the tiniest bit, and then ultimately did so, “I’m grateful that you’re so willing to help. It’s hard to know who to ask to help deal with a situation like this, because unfortunately not a lot of people can be trusted nowadays.” At least in Khitti’s mind anyway.

Kailani :: It takes Kailani a moment to figure out how she wants to respond to Khitti opening up, which is through no fault of Khitti's. The druid just needs more time analyzing these situations, they are all new to her. Ultimately she decides to respond with a smile toward Khitti. Perhaps Kailani is not opening up, but she does appear to be softening up slightly...which is promising. Even hermits have some sort of personality type, surely Khitti would like to be able to figure out what sort her own guild member has. "It seems to make sense to help in this situation. If you could not tell when I first joined, respecting the balance of it all is important to me." That being said, there may have been a scenario where Kailani may have been forced to say no, again to respect that balance. The druid rises up to her feet, taking her weapon into the grasp of one hand as she tosses her travel pack back over her shoulder. "When you have those samples, you can either send word just like you did for today's meeting. Or, if you wanted to send someone to deliver them to the Chartsend area, that would save me a considerable amount of travel time. Whatever you find most convenient."

Khitti wasn’t going to unload all the feels entirely--which Kailani would probably be grateful for if she knew what sort of thoughts and feelings Khitti’d been harboring for awhile. No, no. That was something for Lanara and Meri to deal with. Maybe Brand too. Eventually. Maybe. Anyway. “I will certainly do so. It’s been awhile since I’ve been over that way, so I may even deliver it myself. It’d be a nice change of pace, for the day, at least. Thank you, Kailani.” Khitti left their conversation at that, letting the druid return home if she wished or, you know… do druid-y things.
