Part of the Do You Believe In Magic? Arc

Summary: Having just about given up on her scouting mission to find clues pertaining to Raiez, Khitti actually manages to find the Blue. It does not go well. Oh gods no. Poor, little booplesnoot. ;_;

Steep Path

Khitti had no luck finding much of anything clue-wise in either Kelay or Frostmaw, besides a few personal belongings that had been left behind that were of no importance to a dragon. With the other two areas out of the way, she had decided to search Xalious for anything, anything at all, but even now still found nothing. No one around here had seen a dragon and of course, as usual in Xalious Village, she got nothing but weird looks. More people had gone missing, but clearly no one but Khitti would suspect a dragon. The villagers -did- believe her to be a bit crazy. And so, after her failure, she continues on up the mountain pass, distracted and irritated as always, until she comes to a spot she deems worthy of being able to handle her magic or at least something that would go unnoticed for now. An orb of ooze is summoned up and tossed towards the nearest tree, and then another following soon after. Quickly the dark magic begins to corrode and eat away at the tree, tainting it as if the plague had swept through. It was something much needed to vent her frustration. After all, this was certainly an irritating situation.

There came no roar, nor even the passage of a shadow to herald the dragon's presence. It was almost as if she were simply vanished from the world, an afterthought left behind to remind people to have butter with their crab legs. But what -did- happen was a scream, a plea, a beg for mercy. It was some distance off from Khitti, but not so far as to be out of running distance. It happened again, but something was unusual about the scream, this time. It was higher pitched, though not by much. That didn't stop the pitch from continuously rising, however, though it would have been difficult to pick out the sudden increase in range as the sound became quieter and quieter. Just what was happening over there?

Khitti blinked a few times as she heard the scream. Well, I mean...that screaming could be anything. Someone getting tickled. Someone getting mugged. OR MAYBE IT'S A BLUE DRAGON. The vampiress weighs her options. She could either run and get help from the mages nearby and show them that she's -not- entirely batty or she could just run headlong into certain doom. I'm sure you can figure out which one she chose. Sometimes Khitti lacked common sense. Or perhaps she just like the mystery and adventure. Whatever. She's still crazy. It's a dragon. Regardless, she -does- run towards the screaming and probably danger, but she'll be okay...right? Yeah. We'll go with that.

What Khitti would find upon reaching the scene of the excitement would be...well...Raiez. No one else, just Raiez. Of course, the fact that the dragon woman was busy with something in her satchel was likely to be an incriminating sight to the vampire lass, but the dragon was too preoccupied to even notice her at that moment. "Oh, I have to be careful not to set the jar there," she was mumbling to herself as she stood there. "I've already had to dispose of one because of my 'just in case' jug. Can't let that crabman ruin -all- of my specimens." Wait? Did she actually have the butter with her? What was it the butter would ruin? Did butter really make everything taste better (because let's face it, Raiez is a dragon and would probably just eat whatever got drowned in butter)? The world may never know.

Khitti stops dead in her tracks (haha, undead pun) and stares at Raiez. She looks at the jar, then back at Raiez, then the jar, then finally at Raiez again. "You," she says angrily, her eyes narrowing at the older female as a step or two closer is taken. "It -is- you." Well, now what, Khitti? Are you going to attack her? Are you going to just stand there mildly menacingly? You realize you might as well actually be a kitten in comparison to that dragon when she's in her true form. Oh. Okay. You are going to attack her. Cool. The dark ranger does, in fact, decide to apprehend the dragon with violence, the dark tendrils forming along her fingertips and braiding together to create a sort of whip in each hand. "Everyone zhinks I'm crazy because of you, you damned dragon." The left whip cracks against the ground, "You're not going to get away vith zhis."

Raiez stared at those whips when they emerged. Hmm...Yes, yes those were a nice touch. Raiez stroked her chin and nodded to herself as Khitti made her threats, even going so far as to step forward towards the angry vampire. "Tell me, my dear," she purred as she began to circle the Frostmawian woman, "what is it that I won't get away with?" Of course she was playing dumb, a coy grin on the mage's lips. "All you've done is interrupt a person who was digging through their belongings. There is no crime in any land against such an action."

Khitti glared at the dragon, "You know exactly vhat I mean, beast." The right whip cracks at Raiez's feet. "Stay away from me. I know you've been taking zhem. Zhe mages. Of course, it's you. You just show up out of nowhere and disappear vithout a trace. And I'm really zhe only one zhat knows about you..." She takes a step away from the dragon, keeping her distance. "I'm going to tell zhem." Another step away. "All of zhem." One more step. "You're not going to be able to do zhis forever."

Raiez chuckled throughout Khitti's little speech. "Won't I?" the dragon questioned as she reached in her satchel and pulled forth the jar she had been stowing when Khitti first arrived. Within the jar was what looked like a figurine of a person, one made with the finest eye for detail. Closer examination, however, would find that the 'figurine' was moving, banging on the side of the jar as it tried to call for help. It was no use for the shrunken prisoner, however, as the jar was soon back in the satchel and another, empty one was pulled forth. "I think this one would be the perfect size for you." Oh, the grin that was offered to the vampire. It was so malicious and cruel that it was so, very suited to a predator.

Two words drop out of Khitti's mouth as she sees the tiny figure within the jar move about and called for help, "Oh, f--" WAIT! You can't say that here. Sheesh. The vampiress' eyes widen as a jar was specifically chosen for her, panic setting in and her anger flaring again. "No." That grin of Raiez's was unnerving, just like the one she'd given to Khitti in the Frostmaw tavern. She clearly should've taken it as an omen for the bad things to come, the bad things that was now, indeed, here. She snaps a whip at Raiez again, the end fraying into the five tendrils that made up the weapon, each one begging to seek out the dragon and try to burrow deep beneath her scales and flesh. "You stay over zhere, Raiez. Vhy zhe hell vould you vant me anyway? I'm not even remotely interesting." Yeah. Okay. Nothing remotely interesting about being bonded with a creature from the shadow plane. Nothing. At. All.

Raiez just laughed and laughed as she took a few, slow steps back. "You want me to stay away?" she asked before her mirth was let loose anew. "Oh, my sweet dear, I will stay just over here, as you wish." But that grin was still in place, still displaying that the woman was a threat. Her hands lifted, and even before she began her cadence the air around her fingertips began to ripple with mana. This would be the time to run, Khitti, because otherwise the world was about to look a whole lot bigger.

Khitti was quick to realize that maybe...just maybe...Raiez was more than just your normal, every day dragon. It didn't occur to her that she might also be some form of magic user besides the typical lightning magic that came with being a blue dragon. Oh good. Something she hadn't anticipated. -Again-. The tendrils disappate immediately, leaving nothing but purple and black smoke in Khitti's wake as she darts off away from the spellcasting lizard. She was incredibly thankful at the moment that she had that lovely boost of vampiric agility when she needed it. Which was now. Right meow. The vampiress attempts to make her way down the path, though unfortunately for her, she had climbed quite farther up it than she originally thought. Hoping that she made the right decision, she heads off towards the village, hoping to run into some powerful mages along the way to save her because once again, she was a damsel in distress.

Raiez didn't stop casting as Khitti ran. She was intent on filling a second jar today. But, as luck would have it, Khitti had vacated her spot in the knick of time, and all that got hit was a bunny. It shrank and shrank until it was the size of an insect. The poor little booplesnoot, it was soon beset upon by a colony of ants and ripped to shreds to feed their queen. But that was nothing the dragon was worried about; no, her quarry was getting away. And so with a yell that soon became a roar, the woman was soon a dragon and took to the skies. She burst forth from the wooded stretch with the snapping of many tree limbs, branches spraying out around her as though she were a scaly, volcanic eruption. Airborne, she pursues her prey as only a dragon can.

Khitti let loose a long string of curse words that no proper female would ever say. No, really. Some of these aren't even in Common. Who knows what they actually mean. She doesn't stop running though, especially after hearing the terrifying screech that came from the poor, poor booplesnoot as it met it's doom as well as the roar that sounded from the now transformed dragon. Either she was going to die or she was going to end up in one of those jars, and at this point, she didn't know which one sounded worse. In all of this inner monologue going on in her head as she darted through trees and into the meadow, she was quite happy that she managed to convince Brand to let her go off on her own to scout things out. But, likewise, she hated not having the back up. This was not going to end well at all for her either way.

Raiez was not a happy dragon. Because of Khitti an innocent little bunny rabbit died. A bunny rabbit! Who ever wants to hurt one of those poor, adorable little things with their cute, little, wiggly noses and those floppy ears?! Another roar tore through the sky as Raiez, with her massive size and wingspan, quickly gained on the vampire in the meadow. Ozone was easily able to be smelled upon the air as the dragon let loose a lightning breath attack, though she did not aim for the vampire, herself. No, she aimed for a patch of land a short ways in front of her, both to startle the woman to a stop and to blind her. It was then that she pitched downward, a claw extended to snatch the dark ranger from the ground.

Khitti let out a scream as the bolt hit the ground not far from her. More cursing ensued from the redhead, hands immediately going to her eyes as she tried to shake the daze from the attack and shield herself from more. But, once again, she didn't anticipate things properly and was quickly scooped up by Raiez and that claw of hers. There's a few blinks of shock, and then another scream as well as a bit of struggling. The vampiress flailed her arms, fists pounding uselessly against the dragon's claw, "Let me go! Leave me alone!"

Higher and higher into the sky Raiez climbed, her claw firmly wrapped around Khitti's body. The vampire's words were lost to the wind, and so the dragon made not a reply as she flew. Farther and farther north they traveled, encroaching strangely close to Frostmaw's borders. Could the dragon actually have changed her mind? Could she be taking her ho- Oh. Oh. No. Not at all. That would be too easy. No, the dragon was descending towards a cave, a cave not too far from the climb to Frostmaw's southern gates. It would be there that Khitti would call home for a while, her and a few other mages.
