RP:All Hands on... Genasi?

From HollowWiki

Summary: The Ice Genasi requests a hand to replace 'Righty's former position on her...right wrist. Alvina promises to make a substitute in the meantime but hands are delicate business.

Dining Cafe

Emilia sat tucked away in one of the private booths in the back of the cafe away from the other inn goers. The Genasi was lucky or perhaps unlucky to be a well known person to the lands, but on this day it was a lucky moment as it allowed her to have her own silent booth away from the chaos. The Genasi was waiting for a friend to arrive to see about having a second, er well third hand created to go over the stump from when she chopped off her own hand. Sitting at the table with Em was Righty, the black ice hand that never actually died after being removed from the woman. Before the healer a cup of tea that had been sipped part way down and a plate of berries, half eaten. Lifting up a red berry Em slid it into her mouth, chewed, and swallowed. The juice of the fruit turning her frosty blue lips a tint of purple before it was washed down with a sip of her tea.

Alvina didn't usually frequent the dining cafe but when you received word that the woman who delivered your children wants to meet you, you rush out of your house immediately, forget that the letter says another date and time...and then go back inside feeling foolish. The next thing you do is go meet her at the appropriate time in the appropriate place. So, here she is. Alvina's green eyes scan the area, searching all the tables and booths until she finds Emilia in the back. Her right hand is lifted, gloved and ready to wave in greeting when she sees the black ice hand (for the second time) and tries not to cringe for the sake of politeness. "Hey Emilia," She says casually, as if there wasn't a magical sentient hand on the table.

Emilia was pleased that Alvina had not only gotten her memo, but had come to visit her too. She had not seen the woman in some time and to think of it she hadn’t seen her outside of Frostmaw. It was good to see her in a climate more fit for the other. With a wave of her good hand the Genasi offered the other woman a seat at the table. Looking to her right hand the Genasi snapped her fingers and pointed to the floor. Almost as if a sad puppy Righty crawled off the table and found a spot on the floor by the frozen woman’s feet. People being uncomfortable about her hand was a new normal for the Healer. “It is a pleasure to see you. How are you? The tiny ones? The husband?” Em would question after Alv had taken her seat. Lastly added, “Can I get you anything to eat or drink?”

Alvina felt rude for staring at the hand but it was kind of...a hand. The bard took a seat across the booth and returned the pleasantries brightly. "It's good to see you too, it's been too long." As it always is, these days. "I'm doing all, staying busy with all the work here to do in the city and in Frostmaw. Harper and Luna are...so big already. I'll get misty eyed if I think too much about it. Bryce, our son.." Alvina didn't know of Emilia had heard through the grapevine or not. "Was born unexpectedly or I'd have written for you. And he's well still to small to do much but he's cute at least." She takes a breath and waves off the offer of food or drink graciously. "And Hudson is working hard with the Mayor, Uma, to support witches rights. They just had a gala not too long ago. It was..." A lot of things, but Alvina decided to keep it on the light side. "It was nice." After a beat, she smiles. "How about you? Are you doing well? I wasn't quite sure what your message was about so I was worried!" Imagine that - Alvina worried!

Emilia smiled knowing that the twins were doing well, that the newest was small, but cute and that Hudson was doing work in the town meaning he wasn’t going to be drooling over her like he used to before he married Alvina. Oh, the memories it brought a cheesy smile on her lips. Shaking away the memories she turned her attention on Alvina, still with a light smile, “I have been alright. Righty is stubborn as ever making life harder than it should be. I was hoping if you were not too busy with tinies that perhaps you would be able to help make a replacement hand for the stump or know where to send me for that.” There was a pause as the Genasi took another bite of a berrie before sipping her tea. The pause lasted a moment, “I am working here in Cenril to build a healing center for the town, similar to Ara in Larket. Uma has been a wonder supporting my desire to aide the city. The littlest is not growing well? Perhaps I should make a visit to see the littest and bring with me a special formula that will help them with catching up from being born early. Worked good for the triplets…” There was a sore topic for the Healer and quickly changed, “I could also do a checkup on the twins, see just how well they are doing? Have not seen them since they were born.”

Alvina grinned when the Gensai mentioned her hand by the name of 'Righty'. Well, it was what it was, right? Her inquiry into making Emilia a new hand though...that caught her attention. "I've never made a proper arm before," She admits, which would mean making a hand might be complicated to do on it's own. "I'm not saying I'm not willing to try but since it's my first time, there might be several checks involved. It might not work perfectly the first time." She looks nervous, not wanting to say no but it doesn't sound like something Ranok would consider. His standards were insane as it was. Grumpy old man. When Emilia mentions Bryce, Alvina's quick to wave her hands dismissively. "Oh no he's growing just fine, he's just still young and small. Soon he'll grow just as big as his sisters and I'll never sleep again." When Emi brings up her children, Alvina's expression sink sympathetically but she doesn't make mention of it. Only tries to turn the conversation to brighter things. "I'm sure they'd love to see you. Maybe I can bring them with me when we look into this hand in more detail. The twins are doing so well. They're in school now and it's just...breaking my heart a little." Now she felt guilty for discussing her children. "Oh yeah? Isn't Uma the sweetest? If you need any help with the clinic, let me know. I still know how to heal a thing or two." She grinned bashfully. "I'm sure that the city could use some good, after all the madness of the past year."

Emilia smiled, it was refreshing to hear that the children were doing well all three of them. School? Had they really grown that much already? Somehow knowing that someone's little ones were well off made her happy for the moment. It was easy for her to box up one set of emotions and focus on another. “I would be glad to have some help at the clinic. I have a meeting with a feline colony to have their help and teach some of them as well. It will be a wonderful thing once we get it up and going, I am sure of it.” Shaking her head, the Genasi almost giggled, “I don’t need to have the most functioning of things, just something to fit over the stump? I am rather used to being stared at for being so cold and white, but the staring at the stump? Somehow that seems to bother me more. And I have tried a leather contraption to hold my hand in place, but Righty is just as stubborn as ever and doesn’t like it and breaks free.”

Alvina knew the pain of having people stare over an appendage so she could sympathize. When Emilia details her plans for the clinic, she smiles with enthusiasm. She looked tired, but also enthusiastic! "I'll do my best," she promises before clarifying about her hand. "I can make a stand in fairly quickly and send it to you while I work on the actual replacement. I might be able to get some functionality out it, even if it isn't a perfect replica." After a moment, Alvina looked up towards the Cafe doors and then at the place at large. "I hate to be rude, Emilia but the girl's go to school nearby and it's nearly time for me to pick them up. Where are you staying in town? I'll send work and we can meet up again after I get the replacement fleshed out." She looked earnestly apologetic.

Emilia nodded slowly, “Yes, that is not being rude I understand. I am staying here at the Inn for the most part while I am in town. However, we are building just north of the bathhouse so there is a chance that I can be found working away there. I look forward to working with you. I am sure you will make something great. Give the girls hugs for me and take care!” The Genasi smiled and waved a goodbye to the other so that she could go pick up her littles from school.

Alvina moves to stand, offering a gracious and humble bow to Emilia for her kindness. "I promise I will." And then she dips below the table to wave a cautious goodbye to Emilia's black ice hand. It felt rude to ignore it but also what do you say to a free range hand? "I'll write you soon!"
