RP:Accidental Chivalrous Rescuing

From HollowWiki

Summary: Larketians witness an 'angel' of sort rescuing them from what used to stand tall as the Towering Tenements

Towering Tenements

Stone tenements rise high on either side of the street, made of granite, the gray stone covered by trellises of ivy. The vast majority of Larket's citizens live here, with its convenient, central location and moderate rents. A steady stream of humanity flows in and out of the iron gates, running up and down the stairs, laughing and talking. It is almost as if this is a smaller city inside Larket itself. Harold, the designer and overseer of the construction of the tenements, has an office on the ground level, where he still offers his services. The street runs into the town center to the east, and off into a quieter part of town to the west.  A note is here.

Earthquake damage: Severe, uninhabitable, residents living in tents on the grounds.

Irenic had been at this for a few nights now, digging through bodies and helping those living out of the wreckage. It would be a rare sight seeing Irenic helping others and someone that knows him well would know something is up. Once anyone made their way to where the towering tenements used to stand they would see a small group of people holding each other for comfort while this Avian was flying into the danger, ripping through fallen brick and wood carelessly bloodying his own hands and flying people to safely. He was searching relentlessly for something and others can tell this man is not well, his wings look a little lacking in feathers while bags were forming under his eyes and he'd been without some food for a full day now. He didn't say much to anyone and barely acknowledged any thanks given to his accidental chivalry.

Artia had left the sickbay once again, with a basket full of items she might need as well. The large bag was full of items she put together for hygiene, food, clean water extra blankets. Entering she began with handing out the goody bags she put together until her bag was empty, moving further she noticed a few people hollering praise to someone . She saw the hopeful looks in the faces, that the male helping them was here to continue. Some gathered around hoping and praying aloud, not sure what he was doing. Once she saw who it was and the condition of him, "Irenic!" She moved closer, trying to help Irenic move stuff around. She paused, looking at the man's face, "Stop a moment and rest."

Irenic grumbled before it took him a moment to realize someone was talking to him and his tunnel vision subsided for a moment as those baggy mismatched eyes took in the sight of Artia. "Hey…" There was a long pause, he looked odd, almost dead inside as this was not a side of Irenic most see. "I can't." Was all he offered in a tired voice as he continued to relentlessly sift through the debris below them. If she started to help he would have no issue yoking her up and setting her aside for safety. The look in his eyes so determined and the cuts and dirt on his hands leaving a ghost on his touch on her clothing. Once he set her back down he would firmly say, "Stay." He looks back to the wreckage as if listening for something, that Avian hearing picking up moaning before diving right back into the mess.

Artia crossed her arms at him, making her move. "Irenic, I am not a dog you can not just tell me to stay. first time you did that I did exactly opposite of what you said not to do." She was going to move back, but stopped, he looked too determines. "Irenic, you need to come with me now. you need rest and a meal."

Irenic brought over a little girl to a frantic mother and father before finally listening to Artia… He was getting really hungry and just as if on queue the stomach cried out for food when he stood there looking aimlessly at what used to be the Towering Tenements. He finally sat on a large boulder opposite the road and the disaster. "I have a feeling that Quizical is in there… I'll look until I find him…" A teenage boy rushed over to Irenic, one he pulled out yesterday and brought him a canteen full of water. Once Irenic took it and sipped from it the boy ran off so Irenic couldn't give it back. He would still accept a goody bag from Arita and power the food down gracelessly.

Artia pulled out the last bag she had, hand it to irenic. Moving to stand in front of him with a wet rag, cleaning his face. "Irenic, if he is then you need to recharge your body to continue looking. Why do you think he is in there? What if he ones of those waiting to get into the sickbay?"

Irenic's stare was blank and he empties the water from the canteen, "I don’t know… Idontknow-Idontknow…" He paused a long moment as he started to sound like the crazed dark knight that he did when him and Artia first met… "Does anyone know what cased this… Is the supposed to happen?" His gaze went back to the large heap in front of them, "I just have this feeling he is in there somewhere…"

Artia shook her head, placing a kiss to his forehead down to the bridge of his nose. "I've only been back since last night, I do not know what caused the quake. I have been gone from Larket for awhile, it reminded me too much of Odhranos, so I left to avoid the pain." Pushing the bag towards him, "Eat. Now. Let some of these men help you look, but eat. Then crash my place for the night if you need."

Irenic padded the top of her head gently, "How lucky everyone is now that you're here…" It was genuine, out of place for him, but genuine nonetheless. He nods to her before rifling through the bag he gave to her to mash more food into his mouth and shortly he would retire to one of the tents and have a nap before getting back to the grueling work of accidentally saving people.

Two Nights Later

Irenic looks a mess with his hair coated in dirt and grime from the shaken town of Larket. He had been at the wedding with Valrae when the earthquake hit, but some instinct told him to flee with Valrae and go searching for his orphan friend, Quizical. This boy was someone he's gained a relationship with on their weekly treasure hunting adventures and he's become unexpectedly become attached to the boy. Irenic's hands were covered in dust and dirt from a collapsed building mixed in his own blood as it seems he'd been digging through rubble. Inadvertently he'd been saving people from the tenements while searching for Quizical for he just had a feeling he was under the rubble… Somewhere. He had been spending the past few days digging through the heaping piles of bits of building only to nap for a moment nearby in a tent and grab a snack before pulling more unfortunate souls from the wreckage. He eventually found the boy, unconscious appearing to have died. Irenic leans over him as if testing it out himself. "… No." His tone was darker and even more raspy as he felt tears sting in the corners of his eyes. "No!" The tall Avian's voice caused a few to flinch in surprise at the boom of his voice. "Wake up!" Both of his hands easily envelop the boys shoulders with a firm shake, "Wake. Up. Quizical!" Every word was a struggle before his face downcast in a pitiful frown and one tear slipped out. His wings seem to reply in kind with his feelings and turn down atop his shoulders. He pulled the lifeless body into an embrace while burying his face into the cold shoulder of the corpse and his voice was barely a whisper, "No…" Irenic didn't notice the spectacle he was causing, but he needed to get out of here and fast so he shoots up and off into the skies... He flies off not planning where he is going.
