Description:

Generally a subterranean species; though among the smaller variety of dragons, it is still a tough-scaled species that has a ferocity to make up for its size. It originates from deep within the earth, usually in mountainous caverns where clay deposits are common. The Poppy-Jasper dragon's name is indicative of its exterior appearance which is much like Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper, a stone that is usually spotted or striped with a number of contrasting colors such as white, black, red, and orange. This particular dragon has many of the properties the actual stone has, among these things is the ability to 'bring rain', meaning the Poppy-Jasper dragon is able to manipulate water. Many of its abilities tend to be passive, however: the dragon acts as a kind of adrenaline for its deliberate receiver. It infuses the receiver with waking energy, triggering parts of their mind that seem otherwise asleep. This allows the dragon's target to tap into deep and largely unknown and/or undeveloped abilities. The Poppy-Jasper dragon also fosters a deeper connection with living things which serves best for those who already have deep, spiritual ties with the earth. This dragon can affect those around itself to be more positive and jovial. Its mere presence encourages a desire to take creative action.

History:

Ajani was found deep within the Craughmoyle caverns during a mithril expedition (See:The Initial Spark). Madigan and a band of others were descending below the earth when Madigan fell through a shaft and stumbled into a hidden cavern where two dragons, presumably Ajani's parents, had been tortured gruesomely. Ajani's mother was already dead when Madigan discovered the cavern and his father was very near death. With Kirien's help, Madigan ended the dragon's life and together, they uncovered an unhatched dragon egg. The other eggs had been smashed against the cavern's walls, but in a final attempt to preserve her young, Ajani's mother managed to hide her last egg from the offenders. He did not hatch until long after the band had returned to the surface and Madigan visited the Queen of Frostmaw, the woman who funded the expedition. His hatching was partly an accident that had begun to take place before an unintentional mishap (Madigan accidentally dropped the egg; See:The Long-Awaited Arrival). Ajani is currently Madigan's mount in the Eyrie and her adopted baby until he's old enough to be an independent. He is undergoing training with the Eyrie.

Ajani means 'one who wins the struggle'.
