Physiology

Ogres are enormous muscular humanoids, far taller than an average Human but not as tall as a Giant and stockier than Orcs. Many Ogres have a similar stooped look, one that they share with their green-skinned brethren. Ogres tend to have big heads with long, protruding teeth that are often sharpened for goring opponents in fights. Their ears are large and pointed like an elf's and, in some cases, flop down against their face. Ogres tend to have tiny beady eyes for such large heads, together with a large, hulking brow. This often affects their vision negatively. Ogres tend to wear their hair long or completely shaven off. If it is long, it is often filthy and shaggy as Ogres do not value appearances as the more civilized races do. Ogre's arms tend to be longer than one would expect, and they have large hands that are ideal for hurling big objects or picking up enemies. An Ogre's skin can tell a lot about where they live; Swamp Ogres tend to have a green-brown tinge, and Ogres that live in Human society tend to be pink and ruddy, similar to a Dwarf. Ogre Magi always tend to have a blue tinge to their skin as this means they have been blessed by the lords of magic with their powers. A fairly unique feature of Ogres is that they may be born with two heads, often with entirely different personalities; however, this often leads to lower intelligence. A second unique feature of Ogres is their digestion. Ogres can, if necessary, digest anything with their strong stomach and stomach acids. Some Ogres have even been known to bring up this vile and viscous fluid to aid in battle. Ogres tend to be very strong and hardy with leather-like bumpy skin that gives them excellent protection. All of these factors together make them very robust fighters.

Psychology

Ogre psychology is relatively simple. Ogres tend to live for survival and conquest. Ogres enjoy fighting but tend to be rather dim, so they tend to smash things they cannot understand and may gain a limited understanding from searching the debris - much like a young child. Ogres equate size with power and success, so eating and fighting for exercise take up a great deal of their free time. Ogres value food highly and are very gluttonous; they have even been known to raid and pillage villages because they had something that the Ogres found tasty. Ogres have no manners and very few customs, but their pecking order is critical to their psyche. They would not dream of challenging anyone higher up the chain of command than themselves - unless they had gotten bigger and could beat them in a fight. Ogres believe anybody smaller than them is weaker, but some have begun to realize anyone wielding magic is not to be trifled with.

Ogre Society

Ogres live in a tribal structure with the current warchief as head of all. A mighty warchief may command more than one clan. Ogres live in clans and tribes, and the largest and most powerful male tends to be the clan leader but may answer to a greater warchief if several clans have banded into a tribe. Ogres tend to move from place to place to settle and consume resources, but the Ogres that are 'native' to Rynvale have become settled. This is because their leader Gruz had a vision of his tribe conquering a land to the far west and sailed across and settled in what is now Gamorg on northern Rynvale. Currently, the Gamorgian Ogres pillage the nearby city, village, and wilds for food. Ogres always have to follow orders from anyone higher up unless they could feasibly defeat them and take their place. The only real customs the Ogres tend to have is passing down powerful weapons to their offspring and holding large banquets before and after a battle. Ogres tend to enjoy getting drunk and, after a hard day of fighting, hunting, or in rare cases building, they tend to get drunk and pass out in their hut, ready for another day of the same.

Order of Power

  1. The Warchief
  2. The Shamans & Magi
  3. The Warchief's Bodyguard
  4. Everyone else

Ogres & Religion

Ogres tend not to be particularly religious but do have their own beliefs. Ogres believe in Gods, especially battle Gods such as Aramoth. They also have their own god who dwells within the earth. No Ogres have ever drawn what this god looks like. Still, he is always depicted as a massive black hole because the Ogres worship their underworld god through large gaping chasms, into which they throw bones and carcasses and other offerings to appease their god. Ogres often do this to aid them in a specific cause, such as a battle, and, if successful, always give the god an offering of something with twice the value.

Ogre History

Ogres' history in Hollow begins around 60000 years ago. Like many larger humanoids, Ogres are not indigenous to Hollow and came to Hollow through a great dimensional rift shortly before their realm was destroyed. The Ogres immediately saw similarities between themselves and the Orcs and settled in Gualon with them. As a result, much of their history is intertwined with that of the green-skins. The Ogres were forced out of Gualon when the humans first spread across the lands, which has led to ages of animosity between the Human and horde races, especially the Ogres, minotaur, and giants, who felt they had been robbed of their homes twice after having to leave their home realm. After evacuating twice, the numbers of Ogres plummeted, but they did not take their fate lying down and often raided the Human lands with their horde brethren. During this period, many Ogres joined the army of Kaizer and Solaris. They were there during their attack on Senal on the fateful day they met the dark immortals Elazul and Khasad.

At the start of the Dark Age, the Ogres fought alongside Arrecation together with the Orcs. They fought in many apocalyptic battles in the south, including the sacking of the Human kingdom of Gualon. After Arrecation's defeat, the Ogres settled once again into the swampy lands of Gualon. Toward the end of the Dark Age, the Ogres who had not settled in Gualon made a stunning re-emergence. After settling far across the ocean in a far less hospitable land, the Warchief Gruz laid siege to Rynvale harbor. He astounded the locals when he broke through and did not sack the town but instead settled his tribe on the north of the island after defeating the elven city known as the Sylvan Concordat.

Now that the Ogres have a homeland, many have flocked to Gruz's banner, and the Ogre race has become a more powerful player in the horde races' politics, especially after they sacked the Pixie kingdom.
