This cunning spirit takes on the form of an animal, usually a cat, though tales speak of matagots appearing in fox, rat, or dog forms as well. It is unclear where it came from, but those who study the creature believe them to be a lost fragment of sentient divine magic from the Gods of Dark; the matagot seems to despise those touched by the Gods of Light to the point of hostility. They are usually malicious, but will be of great aid if well-fed. According to the tales, if its animal form is given the first mouthful of food and drink at every meal, it will repay its owner with a gift every morning.
