Stat Training vs Gold Farming

There are two different approaches to killing mobs, Stat Training and Gold Farming. Stat training focuses on raising your overall stats as quickly and efficiently as possible; Gold Farming focuses on making as much gold as possible, as fast as you can, regardless of whether you gain any stats or experience from the fights.

Stat Training
The purpose for stat training is to get your HP and other stats high enough that you can easily kill strong mobs that drop lots of gold. This guide is focused on an efficient method of Stat Training. During stat training you want to maximize the number of times you hit each mob before it dies, as the number of times you hit (in conjunction with which skill you used) determines the amount of experience you get. This means you should always use your weakest weapon when stat training, especially when the number of mobs available is limited.
Gold Farming
The purpose for gold farming is purely to earn gold, often fighting things well below your "level" because they drop a lot of gold. Gold Farming can not be performed efficiently until your stats are fairly high (HP over 1500-2500). This is done to earn gold for custom items/looks, sponsor RPs, hire other players, etc... Gold Farming is not detailed explicitly in this guide, but consists mostly of fighting any and all mobs that drop a lot of gold and can be killed rather quickly, regardless of whether they give you experience or not. Using your strongest skill and strongest weapon, one moves from mob to mob as fast as possible until you either need to refill your stats at a healer or run out of mobs to kill.

Initial Training/ Drunken Fool

Drunken Fool Info

You will want to start training on the Drunken Fools, there are 5 of them, their locations listed on Table 1. The Drunken Fools hit for very little, have low HP, respawn in 5 minutes, and randomly drops items you can sell 2 South of the Tavern for decent gold (for a new character). They also drop 5 silver and 50 copper every time you kill them. That will yield plenty of money to pay for your Shiny-fur lotion (8 copper/per - used for curing 10 HP). Drunken Fools randomly drop leather pants (sell for 9 gold), leather sleeve (sell for 7 gold), and leather tunic (sell for 15 gold); all of these items are sold at the Kelay Shop (2 South of the Kelay Tavern). When you get any two of the drunken fool armors you will want to equip them, it will yield you an additional 1 AC, equipping more than 2 of them won’t yield any additional AC so you’ll want to just sell those.

Level 1 Training

Basic Training Technique

The actual details of training are where the nuance comes in. You should always fight the strongest thing that hits you for 1. When starting out, the drops which the Drunken Fools provide makes it far more profitable than other mobs in its range. As you gain HP in Hollow, you will no longer gain experience from the lower mobs. As you fight something, you should start off using the free skill provided at your classes skill center. You can gain HP quite quickly by using slash, but your other stats will often be disregarded, that is why I recommend using your class’s free attack. If your class’s free skill doesn’t use magic, do the following; attack a mob which hits you for 1 with your free attack until your Stamina is out or your HP is down to 3 or 4, whichever happens first. If your Stamina runs out but you still have plenty of HP, select “Wait” instead of your attack, this will increase your stamina by 1 each time. Continue to click wait until your stamina is roughly equal to your HP or your HP is down to 3 or 4, whichever happens first. When your HP gets low, escape and use Shiny-fur lotion to get your HP full and attack again; repeat until the mob is dead. If your class’s free skill does use MP, then do the same thing, but when your MP runs out, you will be forced to either Rest or use Herbs to restore your MP (the only reasonably affordable low level restorative item for Magic Points is the Zorata Flower Petal which may be purchased for 2.5 gold and restores 40 MP, this will still be somewhat expensive for new players but some peole may be lucky enough to get a donation from older players). When the mob is dead, go on to the next mob; DO NOT wait for it to respawn, you will gain stats far to slowly that way.

Level 1 mobs

If your AC is 3 and you've killed all of the Fools and need something to train on while you're waiting for the Drunken Fools to respawn you can fight the Ant, Beetle, Firefly, Mosquito, Dragonfly, Blowfly and Spider. If you're AC is 4 you can also fight the Scorpion and Tarantula. If it's 5 you can fight the Black Widow. All of these mobs drop very low gold, if any at all, so focus your attention on the Drunken Fools if you can. These mobs will get your up to 39 HP. As you get enough gold from selling the Fool's drops you should buy new armor, starting with the cheapest, from the Newb Armor guide cheap armor list. A list of the mobs and what HP they give experience for is on the Monster List page.

Mage Training Specifics

If your class does need magic, your initial training will go quite slow until you can afford to buy herbs to restore your MP. You may want to use slash to start out so you earn enough gold to start buying herbs; It’s done the same way as previously described. Getting above the 2nd Level of mobs is usually a good place to start using your class's free magic skill. As you get your HP up, you can start using your free mage class skill to attack, "Fire Bolt", Do Not Use or even buy the mid skill "Chilling Touch", it uses twice the MP and STA and takes the same number of attacks to gain an MP, thus making it half as efficient as Fire Bolt. When you run out of magic, escape and do one of the following three things; hit rest and wait, go to one of the accelerated rest areas – listed on Table 2. - (each costs gold to get into), or use the Zorata Flower Petal (restores 40 MP for 2.5 gold), using them will be a bit expensive for new characters, though until you get a higher MP, it’s the only way to significantly increase your training speed for magic users. The use of herbs to regain MP will become a slightly better value after 400 MP; at that point, you'll want to start using the Rozota Flower Petal (25 Gold for 500 MP), or if you prefer you can go to one of the many healers in Hollow, their locations are on Table 3. The most cost efficient skill to use for training is your class's free skill, though the fastest skill for training is the strongest skill (Varies by class, costs 800 Gold). By the time you hit 100 MP you should certainly be using your Strongest (800 gold) Spell exclusively.

Level 2 Training

When your AC gets up to 11 you can start fighting the Crow, at 12 the Black Bird, at 13 the pigeon and kestrel, at 14 the Owl and Hawk, at 15 the Harrier, at 16 the Eagle and Vulture, at 17 the Caracara. These mobs will get you up to 107 HP. Even the higher mobs listed here still don't drop as much gold as the items which the Drunken Fools drop sell for, so it's a good idea to keep fighting the fools, in addition to the mobs at your level, until you're fighting mobs which regularly drop over 20 gold. Once you get near 100 HP, you may want to switch from the Shiny-fur lotion to the Fizzy Potion, also sold at the Fermin Apothecary. The Fizzy potion restores 10 times the HP (100 HP vs 10 HP) for 10 times the price (8 silver vs 8 copper), as such it is the same price per HP as the Shiny-fur lotion, but requires less time to use than multiple Shiny-fur lotions.

Level 3 & up

By the time you've gotten to this point, you should have a pretty good grasp of training, you can go to the Monster List, to know which mobs to fight as you outgrow the smaller ones. Remember to always fight the strongest thing you can fight which hits for only 1, that will yield the best combo between "gold farming" (killing mobs with the highest drops specifically for gold, regardless of experience) and "training" (killing mobs specifically to gain experience). When you get your AC to 65 (maxed out "cheap" armor) you should be able to train on things that drop for decent gold. Start killing Prekleks, they drop +6 items, albeit very rarely, or buy the common prek items, they go on the head, face, ears and shield. After that you will want to start looking at the Rare Preklek items, if you can find them for sale by a player, the Naga City items or joining a clan with strong clan armor. When you get to a level where you’re tired of using Shiny-fur lotion and waiting to regain stamina and health, you should start going to the healers, but it will be quite expensive. When you get to the Level 3 mobs you’ll probably want to buy your max skill for your class and start using it to train, it will be more expensive, but will yield much faster results, albeit you’ll need to kill many more mobs, but it will take less attacks. You’ll have to memorize where all of the mobs are in your level so you can go from mob to mob quickly, it may also be a good idea to pay attention to respawn times, so you’ll know when to go back to a mob. If you can find a healer to cure for you, you can split the mob drops and have them cure for you while you battle so you never have to escape, this is a very effective means of training for both the Healer and you.

Upgrading Your Armor

As you move up the levels of mobs, you'll want to get stronger armor. The next price point is generally +6, which, with the exception of a few items from Taylebeck, is significantly more expensive, but generally considered the best transition before jumping to +10 armor or customs, both of which are exceedingly more expensive. Here is a table of the easily acquired +5,6,&7 items. Using this list you can attain 105 AC for a total of 39084.65 or 109 AC for a total of 49517.60, depending on if you opt for the stronger and more expensive preklek items as compared to the value priced Taylebeck +5s.
