Physiology

Ice Eidolon at first glance appear to ethereal creatures, often semi-translucent and as physically present as mist, eternally shrouded in a breeze-churned fog. In truth, however, Eidolon are not spirits, ghosts, wraiths, phantoms, or shades, and at best are only very distantly related to them due to shared experiences with Death. Ice Eidolon are much more closely related to Elementals, even believed to be the 'undead' form of an Ice Elemental. Due to their ghost-like appearances and tendency to make homes in haunted locations, it is not difficult to see why they've been miscategorized with other ethereal beings, despite them being only semi-incorporeal at the best of times--this trait being a defense mechanism and a severe danger to the Ice Eidolon's existence.

Most often, Ice Eidolon have a slender, frail-looking build, their fragile look furthered by skin that's typically iced over and glassy to the touch. Hair is often stark white or a faint shade of blue like the shadows found upon snow. Their eyes tend toward various shades of blue, typically luminous, or completely white. Skin likewise follows these trends of snow-like coloration while also commonly being coated in shimmering layers of ice. Ice Eidolon have a habit of cloaking themselves in mists, the constant source of water vapor a fuel for their powers while at the same time serving to obscure their exact outlines against an enemy's eyes, as well as protect them from unwanted contact, with the fog being dangerously frigid to mortals. These frigid mists, at times, can be used to alter the Eidolon's physical body for brief spans of time, making them more vapor than body and thus partially immune to physical attack. This trait, however, is not one used idly, for it taxes the Eidolon's energies heavily, leaves them open to extreme damage from magic attacks, and, when used without the necessary amount of energy, can result in the Eidolon being unable to return to their natural state.

Logical weaknesses of the Eidolon consist of fire and holy magic (natural, non-druidic fire is rarely potent enough to cause real harm), as well as physical assaults when in their natural state. Additionally, magic is extremely effective against them when they're in a mist state due to the heightened instability. Being highly magical creatures, Eidolon regenerate from injury by absorbing the ambient energies around them, best recovering if in the presence of snow and ice, or near places of death or darkness.

Psychology

Not inclined toward either good or evil, Ice Eidolon are creatures of survival, managing life while being all too familiar with death. They are not outright devoted to maintaining the Balance but their very existence as embodiments of an element lends them toward protecting aspects of Nature, albeit with a darker method. Attuned to death as they are, Eidolon have a blackened outlook on existence, taking a dark pleasure in harnessing the destructive properties of their element in the name of chaotic change. Their beloved Snow and Ice comes before most anything else, in their minds, occasionally to the point that the Eidolon wishes to spread it throughout lands. This is less an aspiration toward power or domination and more of a desire to 'share the glory of ice with other beings'.

Little else is known about the mental workings of such an uncommon creature, most information presumed or estimated based on knowledge of Elementals--their less chaotic kin. It is generally safe to assume, however, that Ice Eidolons are not inheriantly evil but are instead an entity of natural chaos, harbingers of blizzards, and guardians of the frozen dead. Whatever other paths their minds may follow likely depends entirely upon their existence before obtaining the undead status of an elemental.

Ice Eidolon Society

Eidolon are exceedingly rare. It is unlikely for a person to meet, or even hear, of one in their time of existence. As such, there is no basis for Eidolon society. The closest comparison that can be made is their supposed tendency to occupy arctic areas that have suffered large amounts of pain and death, serving as a shepherd of sorts to the restless spirits common to such zones.

Order of Power

Eidolon do not tend to form any sort of hierarchy among themselves--being outrageously rare creatures--nor among their Elemental kin. Solitude is their preferred form of existence, typically content to proclaim themselves guardians of an area and oversee it. Other elemental beings or spirits present in the area might choose to follow under the Eidolon due to it commonly outranking them in power, experience, and capabilities.

Ice Eidolon & Religion

Eidolon, like Elementals and Genasi, are not known to worship any specific diety, but rather nature itself in its various forms. While Elementals tend toward a more Balanced view on this, Eidolon lean toward the chaotic side of nature, relishing in blizzards, freezing rain, avalanches, and other destructive forms of Ice. While not outright evil nor particularly power hungry, Eidolon take a darker view on the world, and might not see reason to withhold the powers of their element where an Elemental or Genasi might.

Ice Eidolon History

Ice Eidolon are a rare occurence, occasionally arising as parts of tribal stories concerning the frozen elements, retribution, and death. It is unknown how they come into existence although some speculate that as they're highly similar to Ice Elementals in nature, they may be kin, or a result of alteration to an Elemental. The most widely accepted belief on how Eidolon come into being is by an Ice Elemental--or even a potent Genasi--'dying'. As Elementals are the living embodiment of a their respective element, true death isn't thought to occur, but rather a reanimation of sorts, a state of undeath of the element. This is the running belief, as well as possibly Elementals being corrupted, tormented, or otherwise dragged from their neutral position into that of a more chaotic--and often darker--state.
