Fight: Quintessa and Magik Spar

From HollowWiki

Behind the Barrier, Xalious

You are now standing in the battle zone, where you could be in grave danger. You quickly duck every now and then to ignore a zap of lightning flying onward to an opposing foe. This room is magically sealed, to prevent actual physical or mental harm from the spells, but the visual aspect of them is a little frightening. You notice the wall is lined with many books, some probably from the library you saw earlier. There is also a rack with many rune engraved or magically enhanced quarterstaffs, but you notice a monk shake his head at you as he notices you eyeing them. This part of the room is larger by far than the area on the other side of the barrier, where most of the teachers stand and watch their students practicing. The only mentors you see on this side are the ones teaching hand to hand or weapon combat. Your only retreat is through the invisible barrier to the west.

Magik walks into the "battlefield" in his more casual garb; simple leather boots, a black shirt, padded black pants, and a simple quiver on his back holding a few arrows. The elven vampire carries in two bows, a small child's bow in one hand and his massive black custom made bow in the other. He drops and kicks his bigger bow to the side. The Lyastri studies Quintessa, black fiery eyes burning calm. "I'll try to take it easy, maybe." A devilish smirk plays across his features as he goes through the motions of readying his bow. He holds the little bow to his side, reaches behind him with his free hand to grab an arrow, nocks the arrow onto the thin string that looks like it could snap at any point and pulls back. Before he releases the arrow, he turns his head to the side to let out a violent black flamed sneeze. As he sneezes, his aim shifts and he accidentally releases the arrow. Should it fly true, it should hit Tessa in her head. If it does, well, it's just a child's arrow. It has an extremely blunt tip. It'll break skin and maybe leave a bruise, but that's about it.

Quintessa is not pleased with being attacked with a child's bow, as is easily seen on her face. "Are you MOCKING me?!" she screams, her aura of misfortune spreading out to engulf the entire battle field. The string on Magik's bow is indeed close to snapping, and when the hexblade's curse reaches it that's all it takes to finish it the rest of the way. The child's bow string snaps as the arrow flies, and Quintessa is more than ready to evade the half-hearted attack. She sprints to the side in an arc, dodging the arrow with ease and closing the gap between them at the same time. The piwafwi she wears is discarded as she draws her twin darksteel daggers, falling behind her as she brings the tips straight for Magik's sides, right under the ribs where it's nice and soft. She hopes his illness will be the distraction she needs to win this fight. She doesn't stop here, rather, she employs a 'hit-and-run' strategy and loops around the vampire, trying to rip the daggers through his side if he was unlucky enough to be struck. The last thing she wants to do is test the strength of the undead, and moving back out of melee range is key to preventing a swift counter-attack.

Magik's smirk plays even more so across his face as the hexblade rushes towards him. Black flames quickly engulf the Lyastri as he quickly reaches down then pulls his hands back up, as if grabbing something from the ground and throwing it to the sky. That something was a solid black wall of fire. The heat emitting from this wall should be strong enough to blow Quintessa back to where she started. As soon as this wall is formed, he rolls to his side and lands in a kneeling position to snag up his big boy bow. The elf pulls and releases the string a few times without any arrows in the direction from which Tessa was running. Blackened arrows form midair soon after and circle back, hoping to find a new home in Tessa's back if his firewall maneuver was successful.

Quintessa grinds her teeth as her original attack is thwarted by a wall of black fire. "You COWARD!!!" She screams, cursing each of her daggers before throwing them both at Magik. The aerodynamic blades swiftly cut through both hot air and magical flames, unaffected by the vampire's counter. She has only a second too look proud of herself before she is blown back several feet, her hands moving to the floor to cause enough friction to slow her down. "What are you even doing?" She mocks, seeing him dry fire his bow. However, her face fills with dread when she sees the real attack close in. She doubts she can dodge arrows from this close, so she doesn't try, instead she stops and pivots, bringing up her armoured sleeve and bracing for impacts. One, two, three arrows strike with enough force to penetrate through her sleeve and cut into the flesh of her forearm. Her aura of misfortune deflects the rest of them, forming a protective barrier around the changeling. "Okay, so you have tricks?" She stands up straight, blood dripping from her left arm. "So do I!" She draws a third knife from her boot, a large hunters knife with a blade as broad as her forearm. She focuses all of her cursed energy into the normally mundane blade, causing it to glow an eerie purple. "I'll be ready for that fire this time!" She screams as she rushes in, aiming a trust right for his shoulder, her plan to disable his arm to keep him from using his bow again. She doesn't want to deal with another arrow shower.

Magik's face goes serious, but inside of his head he is completely thrilled with the tenacity of the young woman. She has skills. She shouldn't have dispatched both of her weapons though. The one does land true though, getting impaled into the back of his leg while he fired those ghost arrows. The black wall disappears as quick as it appeared but with that, Magik brings his bow up in a defensive position and braces himself to try and block the next attack. He tries to force the blade back before it comes into contact with his right shoulder, but he wasn't quick enough. The blade impales it's target, just not as far as Tessa might have hoped. The Lyastri stands still, seeming to stop any attack he might have had in mind. "Good. That was really good. I have a few comments, but that can wait." Magik managed to open his left palm towards Quintessa as he spoke. He adds, "However.." The tip of an arrow seems to slowly rip through his palm, spilling black blood everywhere, threatening to let loose and fly into Tessa's being. "You should get that anger under control just a bit." He smirks then looks at her sword in his shoulder, "Do you mind?"

Quintessa grins up at Magik yet her mismatched eyes were practically burn with wrath. She is pleased that her attack hit its mark but her inner victory comes to an end when she spots the arrow head slitting the palm of the vampire. "You're crazy," She says, her expression changing from rage to glee in the blink of an eye. She abandons the knife in Magik's shoulder to drop to the floor, attempting to slip through the much larger vampire's legs and escape the fight. "I like crazy." she calls back, her good arm lifting up to show her hand. "I don't mind," she says, "But you're gonna mind in about two seconds when that spell goes off." The knife she left fizzles with the lingering magic of her curse. If Magik didn't get rid of it he risked succumbing to the curse of pain that would rack his body with excruciating agony. This, she hopes, will be the distraction she needs to slip away.

Magik laughs as he pries the blade out with his bow, flinging Tessa's weapon to the side. The Lyastri then points his open palm to the side, finally releasing the arrow. This arrow cuts through the air much cleaner than his others. It finds a home in a book on the wall. Numerous books fly off of the shelves surrounding the embedded arrow and onto the ground due to the sheer force and small shockwave of the impact. The arrow is black and dripping black fire onto the floor below. It just looks different, mystical, gothic, evil. Magik wasn't really going to let that one hit a sparring partner. It was used more of a slight scare tactic. Well, unless things got out of hand. A simple nod is given to Tessa as he gathers his bows up and leaves the area. However, he speaks out over his shoulder, "You can keep that arrow if you want. Just wait until it cools down."
