Physiology

The term 'feline' defines a race encompassing various shapes, sizes, and appearances. The most common type of feline is somewhat humanoid, with the ears, claws, and tail of a cat (this form is often seen for full-breed and half-breed). From there, some are known to be covered in a fine layer of fur, sometimes with whiskers and/or slit-pupil eyes. Padded paws occasionally replace human hands and feet. Although less common, felines have been known even to resemble bipedal cats, these often being of the 'big cat' type, such as tigers or leopards, with their bodies usually covered in a patterned fur coat. A trait that seems to be shared by most of the feline race is the ability to take on a 'feral form,' this varying from a simple house cat in appearance up to that of a panther or jaguar, the actual type/breed taken seeming to depend upon something in the specific feline's bloodline.

Psychology

A feline's mind is exactly what one would expect of a creature appearing as the hybridization of cat and human—a calculating, semi-social being with dangerously quick wit and animal instinct. Little gets past a feline's attention; be it a moving object or a play on words, their minds' sharpness is second only to their claws. Younger felines are known for that 'kitten stage,' often chasing shiny objects, snuggling up to or pouncing people, and other common cat traits. All felines tend to purr when happy, a shared behavior despite the many various appearances the race can carry. These are adaptable people, able to live comfortably among other races in cities just as quickly as they can fend for themselves in wild forests. Many felines in Hollow who have no fur tend not to be fully feline, but the descendants of felines who fled the destruction of their cities and were accepted into the metropolitan human societies and then took on their culture and lifestyle. Felines tend to be somewhat selfish and enjoy being pampered and wealthy. Therefore it is not surprising that many felines in other societies, such as human ones, tend to be thieves as they try to accumulate wealth. Some felines fled to the elven lands and were accepted into their society with their natural affinity to the natural world, speed, and grace. These felines became natural rangers. By nature, a feline seeks to protect itself first but often looks out for those they are fond of as well. Not timid nor stupid by any means, many of them are prideful creatures, a trait that can sometimes rival the regal Avian. All in all, this is a race that commonly survives through both agilities of the body and the mind.

Feline Society

Feline Society began sometime after the elder races established their empires and before the human dominance in Hollow. Before this, the felines lived pretty much like wild cats roaming around, killing, and hunting. Something changed, and the city of "Nod Hazar" was established somewhere deep in the southern deserts. However, some great disaster (most likely the original crash of the floating city, Krizar) ended their refined civilization, and almost all records of it have been lost. Since then, felines have lived in a manner reasonably similar to their grandsires. Feline society is very family-based, and felines tend to live in large prides like 'big cats.' Felines tend to roam and hunt together and have a territory they guard jealously from other races and other prides. These days, felines live in traveling camps in great tents and lean-to's fashioned from the leather and hides of animals they kill. They have also been known to smith weapons, usually augmentations to their extraordinary physical weapon: their claws. Felines come of age quickly and almost immediately are required to have a profession within the pride. Failure to carry out their trade leads to expulsion from the tribe, usually with a harsh beating, ears scratched, face scarred, and tail cut. In this way, the felines are a very orderly but somewhat authoritarian society. Although a pride lifestyle was commonplace for past felines, the tradition has all but vanished in present society, the race slowly spreading out to live in smaller families or become solitary.

Felines & Religion

Felines are not a particularly religious race. They instead prefer to worship themselves and their wealth. Although there have been religious felines, they are few and rarely found. Felines rarely show outward devotion to any particular Ascendi, although they tend to hold a fondness for Lauria, Daedria, or Cyela — some have been known to follow the darker Ascendi; however, this is not as common. Not zealots in any sense of the word, felines typically swear allegiance to only themselves and follow an Ascendi's way when it suits them best.
