Under the Waterfall
The sound of the water, plummeting down the cliff is deafening you wouldn't even be able to hear your own shouting. The waterfall must be a good 70 feet high, or higher, and at the top you see the ice that has covered whatever river that moves down from the mountains. But it must not be cold enough there to freeze it all, as the water underneath it pores down this cliff, bringing with it chunks of ice every so often. The great pool of water here is not frozen, as the air is not quite cold enough to cause such, and the ice chunks slowly melt as they crash into the pool and are broken up by the pummeling of the water from above. To your south you see a narrow path, wet and slippery with the spray coming from the waterfall. You're not sure if you want to stay where you are, or if you want to risk a fall from that path! Then you see what seems to be an opening, just behind the waterfall. With a few careful steps you might be able to go there.

Chaine vs Strend

Chaine could barely hear herself think over the deafening roar of the falls. All words, sounds, and any sense of dryness about the place had been driven out by the monumental tower of water falling from the heavens- this would throw her concentration for a loop, for sure. Nevertheless, her brain was still kicking, and that meant this duel would still take place. She bowed to her opponent (as was customary) and sized him up. She'd fought elves before, and this one looked to be a forester… An interesting foe, with what promised to be a compelling fighting style. Standing up and brushing her silver-white hair away from her eyes, she gave a quick smile and a nod to indicate her readiness. Then, with but a closing of her eyes and a wrinkling of her brow, she raised a hand to the falls. She concentrated, her brain sending electrical impulses to the atoms and molecules of the matter around her. Picturing her intent, she splayed her fingers and tensed. The torrent gave a shudder, a ripple across the falls, then slowly the water began to writhe. It shook and trembled, the scientist trembling with the mental effort. At last a stream broke free, and all of the force of the falls was sent streaming towards Strend, the pressure more than enough to knock the air out of the elf.

Strend was rather tired still, so when the human bowed towards him, he sleepishly waved back with a yawn. He gave a small smirk and then watched as she began to tremble, rather curiously. He took a few steps back, unsure of what to expect as the man had not fought many casters, and the one he had used several different attacks towards him. The female's struggling continued for a short while longer, until suddenly she went still. The elf arched his head unsure of what it meant, and stared at her for several seconds. Still uncertain as to what is going on the elf begins to look around, his head scanning everywhich way for a sign of trouble. Suddenly, he turns to see a torrent of water flooding towards him. Without thinking, he places his arms in front of his face, the metal on the top of his forearms protecting him from the majority of the blast. Course, the impact itself was enough to send the elf flying backwards, landing upon his back with a loud thud. Quickly, he placed his hand into the rocks and thrust downwards with enough force to launch himself back onto his feet. As he landed back upon his feet he reached for his bow, and a arrow from the quiver. Placing the arrow upon the string, the elf raised the weapon to align with his cheek, as his finger traced over the insignia upon his bow. He quickly fired the arrow, shortly after pressing down upon the insignia, releasing a net from the solid box that rested upon the side of the bow. The arrow flew towards the woman with unnerving accuracy, aimed to destroy her leg as so she could not move, as the net began to expand outwards slowly making itself larger. The teeth on the edge of the net to secure her against whatever wall she may hit when the force of it impacts her.

Chaine fell to one knee, out of breath from the exertion she had done in redirecting the water flow. She breathed heavily, gripping her pounding head beneath her hood. Unfortunately for her, this meant she was unaware of the arrow that flew towards her. The only notice she had of its existence, in fact, is the hole it tore in her side, sending her careening backwards and towards the ground. She let out a bloodcurdling scream of pain, gripping her side so as to stop the flow of blood. The good news to come out of all this, it seemed, was that lying on the ground left her out of the reach of the steel net, which slammed into the rock wall behind her. This did not register to the scientist, however, as she was too far into the throes of agony to notice. With great effort she managed to prop herself with her left hand, her right occupied with keeping pressure on the wound. She flung out her right hand quickly, not thinking clearly, her head muddled with torturous discomfort. The blood on her fingers flew from her fingertips towards Strend. She had meant them as razor-thin and razor-sharp shards of blood-red glass? But with her concentration shot, and the tendencies of the complex biological components of blood to go awry during magical spells, the liquid instead extended, creating great spurts through the air like ink in water, spreading in sudden jolts towards the ranger...

Strend laughed heartily as the arrowed pierced the human's skin, a smile upon the man's face in enjoyment. He sat the chucking away until he saw he stand back up, flicking the blood upon her hands towards him. He was uncertain of the outcome of this, and what kind of pain it might bring. He raised his arm, as if to block the attack, and saw it freeze from the cold air of the altitude. He sighed in relief a bit more, but kept hit arm raised just in case. It hit the solid true-steel plated forearm (Just the top of his forearm is steel. He doesn't have skin there anymore and shattered, the ice breaking into pieces around the man. He looked down amused by her failed attempt, until he noticed it was beginning to sprout downwards in inch long spikes. The first one went through his shoulder, and he yelped in pain. The next broke through the slim protection his boots provided and stabbed into his foot. The final one laid upon his leg, stabbing into it and causing his movements to become sloppy. With that he pulled up his bow again, the arm that held his arrows having problems from the spike in his shoulder. He reached for the quiver, relinquishing it of three more arrows and placed them upon the string. Aiming towards the scientist yet again he fired, only this time the arrows seemed rather wobbly and unsure, to the point that, even if they did lodge into her, the force may not be great enough to cause severe injury. The elf sighed as he looked upon his sad shots and began to mutter a few words of magic. The arrows burst into a yellowish- orange flame, so that now they could do some harm.

Chaine panted and heaved as her life's blood seeped through her clothing and out onto the ground, finding little joy in having found her mark with the blood spell. The pain wracked through her, and although the cold damp of the air did a bit to numb her wound, Chaine could feel her consciousness blurring from shock and blood loss. Still, she found the mental capacity to be somewhat amazed that even though Strend had a spike of magically-altered blood spiked through his shoulder he found the strength of will and aim to fire off three arrows in her direction. They sparked with flame, but in the wet shadow of the falls the flames did not live long enough to reach her. She gathered her courage and resolve about her, then rolled to one side to avoid the arrows. The projectiles didn't even have enough force to puncture the ground, bouncing away and off the cliff face, but the effort used to roll out of the way made Chaine cry out with another scream. She warily got up to her feet, swaying this way and that as her vision slowly closed into a gray tunnel about her. Through the complete mess of her thoughts at that moment she found the clarity to perform one last spell- the first she'd learned upon arriving in this land. She reached out to Strend- or rather, underneath him. She concentrated, and instantly the atoms in the rock beneath the elf realigned, creating a perfectly cylindrical pillar of rock directly under him. The pillar then sot up out of the ground, threatening to smash her opponent into the ceiling.

Strend trembled as the ground beneath him shook, his leg making it hard for him to move. He was unsure of what to do or what was going on. Alls he knew was that the enemy was shaking again, and the last time she did this the water sprayed at him. He moved uneasily, standing become a chore for him, when suddenly the floor began to move upwards, threatening to smash him. He worked his way towards the edge of the cylinder, but collapsed falling over the edge of the pillar and smashing upon the ground. He gave a groan but didn't truly feel like moving anymore. This mattered little however, cause with a lift of his finger, he gave his final attack to the tiger who had been hiding in the corner. Alex charged forth with all the ferocity the three hundred pound beast had inside her. She leapt forth towards the injured scientist, teeth bared as the went to rip the leg from the frail human's body.

Chaine gave a groan and a sigh, seeing that she had damaged her foe into submission, even in her damaged state- only to find herself in even bigger danger from the elf's pet tiger. She froze, having never actually seen a tiger in real life- they were so rare in her home, when did she ever expect to see one? But despite her expectation, here one was, charging for her, teeth bared. The scientist groaned, as her ordeal was not quite done yet. With the quick thinking she was known for, she ran towards the edge and stood in wait for the beast. Then, as it lunged for her, she dove to the side, sending the tiger off the edge- and herself! The girl slipped and fell over the side, grabbing on by only one hand. Still bleeding and in immense pain, she dangled, waiting for… something, to happen.
