Venue

Forest of Darkness
The forest here is extremely dark, your eyes taking several moments to adjust, unless you are one of the fortunate with dark vision. The area here seems much colder than the path to your east. Spider webs seem to cover the ground, as well as some of the trees, you had best be on your guard. The forest path splits to the north, east and west The way to get out of the forest is to the south.

Chaine vs Poell

Chaine sized up her opponent- literally, in fact. The diminutive pintfolk were small of stature, that much the scientist knew, but of their ferocity she knew little. That was a new sensation for her, knowing nothing about her opponent. The scientist was actually not much one for fighting, but since arriving in this new land she'd known that it was a skill she had best acquire, and fast. No matter, she thought to herself with a quiet smile. She took down her hood to better facilitate her sight, tied up her silvery-white hair in a ponytail, and shoved her spectacles back onto her nose. She nodded to the alchemist, by way of alerting him that she was ready (this was, after all, a fair duel) and then closed her eyes. She concentrated furiously, her brow becoming a mass of wrinkles as she searched through all of her knowledge of science to find the best way to attack. Then, with another quick smile, she splayed her hands, palms down towards the ground. She thought of the soil beneath her feet, soft and loamy forest ground, and the bedrock beneath it. She thought of the solid crystalline structure of the rocks below. Then, in a flash, she opened her eyes and clenched her hands into fists. The ground between the two fighters crackled with energy, sparks arcing back and forth across the forest floor, and in but another second the ground shot up in cylindrical pillars two feet around and twenty feet high. Chaine brought up the ground underneath Poell's feet, intending to send him into the air. Then, anticipating his movements with her cold calculating mind, she flung a hand to where she expected him to be. Small shards of ice began to form out of the vapor in the air and fly towards the spot Chaine had calculated, combining together to become lethal swords of frozen water ready to skewer Poell's Lilliputian form.

Poell studied his opponent with an intense gaze. His piercing emerald eyes, seemingly, seeing all details. Evidently satisfied, Poell shifted his goggles off of his mop of curly hair onto, and over his eyes. Rendering them unviewable to any spectator. He casually let his own hood slip over his head, as he bowed into it. Respectfully honoring the nature of the duel. He stood for a moment, grappling hook attatched to a rope swung over one shoulder, crossing over his small torso, and a black-leather satchel over the other. Creating an "x" in the middle of his chest. He whispered something softly, though it seemed that he was interrupted because he stopped abruptly, and the earth around him began to rumble. If anyone was able to view his eyes beneath his goggles, they would see a look of shock, and somewhat of horror cross his gaze as the ground beneath him erupted into pillars of earth. Launching his dimunitiive form high into the air, the mysterious thing was. Poell seemingly made no move to alter his course as he plummeted back down to the surface. Ice piercing his soft flesh. Though as his body connected with the ground, no blood seemed to pool beneath what would normally be a dead Pintfolk, instead, the body of Poell dissapated into a black, inky mist. Like a physical shadow. That was when a voice, barely audible, almost like a whisper sounded behind Chaine. "Boo!" Afterwards came a slight chuckle, like water passing over rocks in a brook. Poell stood confidently behind his unassuming target. Though he did not remain idle for long as he lept into action. Leaping from a tree he let loose several arrows at rapid speeds at his opponent. As they left his bow, however, they crackled and shifted with energy, becoming physical manifestations of shadows. Sending them much more quickly than any normal arrow at his target. As his arrows made their way towards her, he landed to the ground, tucking into a ball to roll harmlessly to the dusty forest floor. Webs coming up with him, though he carelessly brushed them aside. Using his momentum from the roll to dash headlong at her. Seemingly weaponless.

Chaine wondered at the body of the pintfolk as it seemingly dissolved into black mist in front of her eyes- surely at least that physical an assault should have disabled the little thing? However, just as this thought dissipated and made room for the next in her mind, a small voice whispered a phrase of shock behind her ear. Chaine whipped around to see what had said "Boo!" just in time to watch as Poell, seemingly unharmed from her previous assault, launched a barrage of arrows right for her, the flechettes seeming to shift with the light in the dense copse of trees. She threw herself to the side, one of the arrows grazing her cheek as she flew. The impact of the arrow on her face sent her into a barrel roll, until gravity slammed her to the ground hard on her back. Fortunately, this was when Poell decided to run straight for her. Well, the scientist thought to herself, if I can't harm him directly… She rose her hands just as the pintfolk came to meet her and clapped. As she did this, however, she concentrated on the movement of the air molecules around her hands, sending them careening into each other much faster than any normal sound she could have made. The resulting spell sent a shockwave of sound through the air and out in all directions- she hoped that the vibrations would incapacitate the man long enough for her to rise to her knees and raise her hands once again- this time to send shooting electricity out of her palms and right towards him.

Poell felt confident that things were working out to his advantage. That is, until he found himself careening through the air to connect with a thick, monster of a tree. Not literally of course. Poell felt a sharp pain in his back as he attempted to get back on his feet. His brain searching for answers in the meantime. What kind of she-devil, woman was this? Master of all the elements? He was going to have a joyful time with this. Poell at last made it to his feet when he saw another frightening sight. Tendrils of electricity making their quick path of destruction right towards his figure. Thankfully, he was well prepared for this element. Reaching quickly into his bag, he produced a vial with a yellow, translucent liquid. Downing it quickly, with a slight look of distaste coming to his face, he then puffed out his chest and charged once more. Letting a few more arrows loose as he dawned his hood, and disappeared from sight. The electricity at some point connected with him, but no groans of dismay, or the sound of a spasming body made its way to the ears of anyone in the immediate area. Things were deathly quiet. Save for the whistle of arrows in the air. And the slight, and ever so slight were they, pitter-patter of little feet.

Chaine dodged the whistling arrows easily once she realized that her electricity was having no effect- the shadowy projectiles thump-thump-thumped into the tree behind her, then dissipated. Then, looking around for her target once more, she found that she could not find him. Anywhere. In the trees, the ground, the air above her… Nowhere. Just the sound of his feet running, but no sight of the midget. Warily, she looked around her, but still she saw nothing. Where was he hiding? Then it hit her- she knew how to find him. His shadow magics couldn't stand up to one of the little experiments she'd been working on mere hours before. She reached into her pocket quickly and withdrew what looked like a bright, shining sun held static within the confines of a diamond. With a wicked grin, and a pull of her hood over her eyes, she threw the diamond to the ground. The shell broke, and immediately the clearing was bathed in the whitest light- not only burning the tiny man's image into the trees behind him, but blinding anyone who wasn't immediately shielding their eyes in the area. She knew this wouldn't blind the sprite, with his goggles and hood, but it would reveal his location. At least, give her enough of a clue that- yes! She reached out and pulled at Poell's clothing, hopefully dislodging his hood in the process. Then, calculating again the small man's trajectory and momentum, she raised her hands to him in a spell-casting fashion, to better aid her concentration. She thought hard about what she could do to harm this little man, who seemed to have a trick for everything. Then, in a split second, she realized that she didn't have to affect him directly to hurt him. She pointed her left hand towards a fist-sized rock a few meters away, and, with a pop of displaced air, teleported the rock to the spatial coordinates she had calculated would be occupied by Poell's innards.

Poell was quite ready to strike, a dagger cleverly hidden in his vambrace sliding cruelly out of its sheath ready to strike. Only for things to become completely clear that she had bested him once again. This, if anything. Was frustrating for the little man. Though nothing had happened as of yet to bodily harm him, besides the tree, that is. So he went for the strike. Ready to rid this obnoxious elementalist of her ability to harm him for awhile. Not sure of best how to do this he did what he did best, as an assassin. Improvise. Taking up his cloak behind him, he hurled it at her face, distracting, her, or at least intending to do so. Under the cover of his simple, yet effective distraction he ran, sliding beneath her legs, popping up behind her. His dagger sliding from its sheath, cooly once again. Leaping he thrust upwards at her back. One hand in his pocket thrust between her legs and upwards throwing glittering stones in front of her. The stones, catching the light of her previous invention's power, would shimmer beautifully and distract her. Not Poell however, because of his magnificently simplistic goggles that had a magnificent amount of uses. As he ascended, his blade getting ever closer his let his leg snap out kicking at the inside of her leg at the knee. Hoping to demoralize her ability to mobalize. He felt his blade begin to penetrate her back, when something went terribly wrong. He felt heavy. Awkward, and painful! His eyes grew wide, though his blade continued, his pain also did. Growing in intense measures. He was forced to withdraw his blade and tumble down to the ground, regardless of the damage done, miniscule or fatal. He reached for his bow, letting arrow after arrow let go, point blank at the woman who had seeminly bewitched him. He threw up violently. His body shuddering with the effort to remove this infernal pain that had suddenly captured him. He grabbed another vial from his bag as he collapsed on hands and knees to the ground. This vial, green and opaque, he opened and threw at her, its contents sizzling as drops touched the ground. Poell, however, was growing weaker, the lights of this world fading into unconsciousness. He felt himself slipping, but held onto his fortitude. On one knee he valiantly remained. Head lowered.

Chaine was thrown for a whirl as her face was covered by the small one's cloak. Her sight impaired, she could only feel the cold steel of Poell's dagger as it slid between her ribs, dangerously close to puncturing her lung. thankfully, however, this had not stopped her attack. The rock seemed to have found its way into the pintfolk's stomach, nestling close, she imagined, to his liver and intestines. Breathing heavily from the pain, she still managed to give a weak smile at her success. It was short-lived, however, as despite his weakening Poell managed both to fire off yet another barrage of shadowy arrows and throw a vicious-looking green liquid towards her. Standing to her full height, then stumbling from the pain in her back, she acted as quickly as she could. She threw her white robe off of herself, straight towards the oncoming glob of green potion. The white robe's sigils shone with a bright golden light before the stuff ate it away. Now all but naked and bleeding, she collapsed from the blood loss- at just the right time, it seemed, as she heard the whistle of the arrows pass mere millimeters above her head. She wheezed hard, for she had no more energy to spare.
