Physiology
Rather large, these types of Dragons can reach a maximum of sixty feet, depending on maturity and gender (males tend to be larger). There scales are generally of a dark purple to black, as are their wings. Most often, their pupils are either smoky or barren, as they have become accustomed to living in the Underdark, making the need to focus on light sources irrelevant. Most aged Deep Dragons have also developed a form of magical true sight, capable of penetrating arcane darkness, invisibility, illusions, and other such forms of magical concealment. This form of magically enhanced sight doesn't aid the dragon in finding those who are merely concealed by normal means such as hiding.
As with many dragons, Deep Dragons can can 'alter' their dragon form into other appearances, how Deep Dragons differ however, is that they are equally comfortable in these other forms as they are in their typical Dragon form. They can appear as a humanoid form, often taking on the appearance of a race indigenous to the area. Some Deep Dragons have been known to live for years blending into cities of the Underdark in Drow form. In addition, they can also appear as a winged, legless serpent; this form enables very rapid movement through the cramped tunnels of the Underdark, while still allowing the dragon to perform his breath-weapon with full efficacy. Their powerful breath weapon, a flesh corrosive gas, will rapidly erode any organic material in which it comes in contact, brief contact can cause blindness and permanent scarring; even slight inhalation of this gas is fatal to any creature that requires the use of their lungs. The caustic gas does not, however, affect metals, glass, or other non-organic materials. Though little is known about the origins of this creature, it is rumored that they may be related in some way to the wingless Cave Dragon, which shares the Deep Dragon's habitat.
Psychology
See alignment: As most often they are chaotic neutral in state, willing to do whatever it takes to get whatever they desire, regardless of who or what is destroyed or hurt in the interim. For Deep Dragons, the end result always justifies the means.
