Arc:To Haunt A Hero

From HollowWiki

Introduction

Lionel is a man out of time. In a prior age, he was hailed as champion and hero, defender of the weak against the ceaseless evils of his day. In the eight years since his departure, the realm has changed almost beyond recognition. New heroes, such as the mighty Hildegarde, have fought new threats bravely. Lionel is haunted. He is a broken man, still wielding the legendary Hellfire but damaged to the brink. He sees the faces of all the dead he once knew, from his late wife to the people of his ruined homeland. Unable to cling to the memory of the many victories he once scored, he dwells on the worst moments of his life, whilst singlemindedly throwing himself at all things wicked. In his warped analysis, he must keep on leaping impulsively at every waiting villain, as he has always done, until one of them ends him.

Caedan is a woman unhinged. Like Lionel, she hails from faraway Catal. In his absence, she and her dear brother started new lives together, away from the turmoil of their land. In her mind, Lionel, the rightful heir to the Catalian throne, had ever been a perpetrator in the perennial struggles of her upbringing. Had he simply taken back his kingdom, the Navarre family would never have had to flee, to become destitute, to start over. She never would have lost the older of her two brothers, Jack, to mysterious circumstances, nor would Quinton, the brother who had raised her and loved her so, have vanished under even more enigmatic terms only a few short years ago. And when Lionel takes back Catal only to lose it to the very demons of Hollow who track him there in the name of vengeance, her animosity toward him knows no bounds.

Lionel's return to Hollow soon sees him seeking to free Caedan, as just another impulsive act in his obsession with righting past wrongs and fighting until his luck runs dry. But the powerful psychic has no interest in the man's definition of "freedom." She will not play by his rules, she will not thank him and exit stage left. For Caedan, seeing Lionel means seeing Quinton, whom he once possessed. For Caedan, seeing Lionel means discovering brand new dimensions of loathing. For Caedan, it means war, but her war is so unlike the countless wars Lionel once attended. Caedan will haunt him to his core. In the wake of that haunting, they will both be reborn.

Hollow's unlikeliest duo will become entangled in multiple ongoing storylines, from Hildegarde's war to Xalious' treachery to the remnant of Immortal rule called Xersom and beyond. They may move past their darkest hours, or they may fall victim to their own intense emotions. Caedan may even be the one to break Lionel forevermore. Or they may find some unexpected strength and survive the long night.
