Humans tend to fall into the middle ground in physiology. They are neither short nor tall. They are taller than almost all Dwarf’s and Elves but are not as tall as ogres or giants. The female of the species tend to be slightly shorter and with a lighter build and they tend to wear their hair more elaborately and longer, often using paint on their faces to increase their desirability. Human skin tone ranges from pinkie-white to deep brown and their hair can of nearly any length or color due to the fact they enjoy trying news fashions and styles. Humans are lighter than dwarf’s due to being less stocky and muscular and are heavier than elves. Humans reproduce quite quickly compared to many of the other races and an adult female can produce young regularly and tend to take around nine months for the child to be born. Human children tend to reach physical and mental maturity around sixteen to eighteen years old. Sixty five is considered old and humans tend not to live much longer than that without magical intervention. Humans tend to be “get what you see” species and generally the size of their muscles denotes how strong or weak they are. Humans tend to be physically stronger than elves but are not as strong as orcs of dwarf’s but are considerably faster. Humans tend to have relatively low thresholds of pain and although they can be found in most climates tend to prefer temperate ones for the most part due to their physical and mental condition tending to suffer a great deal when they are out of their comfort zone. Humans are known to have excellent eye sight almost as good as an elf.
Human psychology is quite a unique blend of many races. They vary a great deal but most humans are concerned primarily with survival and then increasing their lot in the world. Humans are quick and excellent students of any art or science due to their very short lifespan. Humans value power and money and most are willing to work towards these ends but can fall into greed and crime much more easily than many races. Humans tend to value order and arrange themselves into kingdoms or republics with a single or group of leaders who will administer for the supposed good of the masses. Once humans are arrayed into larger groups they are much more productive using the individual skills together for the common good in most cases. Humans can be aggressive when in pursuit of what they want or if they feel threatened and can be as violent as an Orc and ferocious as a dragon but for the most part humans prefer peace and tranquillity as this allows one of their favourite activities: trade. Humans trade practically anything, as their society tends to place great emphasis on material gain this is to be expected. It may be because they are so good at trade and negotiation that humans also make excellent and shrewd diplomats and are more than capable of getting what they want through trade and negotiation rather than a fight. Humans tend to become mentally mature around sixteen or eighteen and are by then usually expected to have a trade or profession of their own.
The vast majority of human society these days is well organized. Humans live in cities, towns and villages throughout Hollow but the bulk of their populace live within Larket, Rynvale and Cenril. Humans are short lived and this has made them the most adaptable race In Hollow, being one of the younger races this has allowed them to catch up with elves dwarves and vampires in a relatively short space of time. Humans are well versed in science, literature, music and magic and use all to further the needs of their race. Humans enjoy having a single profession such as farmer knight or doctor and they excel at these professions in their short life time from when they come of age at around the age of sixteen. Most humans enjoy order forsaking their past when the elves remarked they were barbarians and barely indistinguishable from orcs in their haughty eyes. Humans use their order to allow them influence through the creation of their kingdoms, theocracies and principalities. The main downfall of human society is their greed, avid traders they covet all that they do not possess and more than once this has led to conflict between them and other races in Hollow.
Humans & Religion
Humans are inherently curious about things that escape their comprehension and this is reflected in their religious beliefs which are many and varies like human societies, all of their religions however seem to be grounded in what happens after their short lives end and they shuffle off of the mortal coil. Humans will worship any god who appeals to their outlook, Lauria particularly blessed the race of humans as they rely on the forces of nature for their continue nourishment and survival. Some humans that are still barbaric and disdainful of civilization fall into the cults of Astrala, humans often being greedy and hedonistic will often pray to Cyela. Almost all human paladins hold Olric in high regard, as he is their patron and has a vested interest in justice. Humans can be very zealous in their religious beliefs and many times human kingdoms have fought between themselves over matters of the divine. Humans tend not to want to involve other races in their religion believing that they are the chosen few. Human priests can call upon powerful divine spells and convert any who would listen to their sermon.
Nobody knows where humans came from but they were not among the elder races who carved their empires at the dawn of Hollow but whenever they appeared they immediately made their presence felt. At the start of their civilization humans were barbarians not unlike orcs, roaming in small packs usually extended family hunting and gathering what they needed. At some point however humans stopped began to sow crops and established villages which grew into towns and cities. Ever since then the human tale has been one of expansion and advancement. Taught the power of steel from the dwarves and magic from the elves the humans married the two and established themselves on the scene.
In ages long past the humans fought the dwarves of Craughmoyle through the forests of Kelay-Sage and to the foothills of their territory the mountain lands. Only with the intervention of the elves who were angered by the human invasion of their lands and destruction of their forests. The humans not having the might to defeat both of these well established races retreated and formed the lands of east hollow which eventually became the metropolis of Cenril. Humans left behind after this conflict founded Larket or were absorbed into the elven culture becoming the druids of Kelay.
Humans fought with their elven dwarven and pixie allies in the wars against the forces of Arrecation and the dark immortals when they invaded Hollow from the then-fallen province of Gualon. Since those times the humans have splintered but remain strong. A diverse people humans have found themselves on both sides of the many conflicts in Hollow since ancient times lacking a strong leader to unite them all. However the fact that humans vary so much is a strength and even if the powers of evil or good were to dominate Hollow humans would be involved somewhere and would be working to increase their influence and become the dominate race in the lands.
