Life After Death

Unbeknownst to her, Lydia Pyress is actually the bastard queen of Sage. When the vampire Daermon split his soul, he gave a piece of it to his then lover - Calice Greenfae, as a token of his affection. Little did he know that this gift would hold her after death and connect her to a life of darkness.

After Calice sustained a fatal wound in her lower abdomen, the elleth went to Vailkrin to die. She made it only to the dark portal, where she was found by a stray group of necromancers, who recognized her as their own. "Sister," the wraith-like beings hissed as they pulled her gutted body toward the graveyard to the west, "you've finally come home."

After opening a portal to the other side, it was revealed Calice housed two souls inside her body when one began to fight against being sent into the beyond. It's owner still lived - it couldn't leave. Lightening cracked in the distance as a heavy rain began to fall in the east. Energy pulsed through the elf's dying body, breaking through the crystalline eyes of her face and vibrating deep within her chest. Inside Calice and Daermon's soul fought for dominance, and as the thunder grew and clapped from beyond the Xalious Mountains, they merged as one, creating a new entity, and thusly sustaining a new form of life altogether. The gaping hole that had once been her stomach now healed like tiny threads until the wound became no more than a blackened scar against her untouched ivory skin.

The necromancers closed the body inside a sarcophagus for three days and nights as it took its time acclimating to it's new way of life. And then a hunger stirred in her belly that brought her from her repose, and without anything else in mind, Calice was born again.

But, she was not wholly a vampire in the sense of the word, for she had not been sired by ritual and still held some form of a soul. It is not known why her body needs blood; perhaps it is a trait that had passed over with her, for as an elleth, Calice had been enthralled by the vampire bite. Or, perhaps, she became a being of chaos when denied death; but the only thing that is certain about her transformation is that the woman once known as the proud, beautiful Calice Greenfae, rose again with a vengence.

She has no memory of how she came to be, or who and what she once was. The necromancers of Vailkrin took her with them when she ascended from the graveyard and manipulated her lack of self-awareness to create the ultimate weapon in it's place. They gave to her a new name for the creature she had become, and taught her the ways Necromancy once more, hoping to coax out the full potential of Calice's older powers from her reincarnation. But they tainted Lydia Pyress, distancing her new being from the Chaotic Neutral strength she once held, and so they failed, instead warping Lydia into a creature of evil. Years passed. When it became obvious that the former she-elf was outgrowing her keeper's abilities, she began to ask questions. They went unanswered.

Volatile and commanding, she was not able to take their refusal, and turned against them. They had made her cunning, deceitful, manipulative; she instead used her powers on them, reducing the streets of Vailkrin to a battle ground. Not all of the group's powers combined could overcome her, and at last they fell one by one. And Lydia, unable to manage even the scarcest bits of information, left answerless.

For their credit, the Vailkrin necromancer's kept her identity a secret throughout her endless torture; she was never meant to know she had once been Calice Greenfae, messenger of the gods - forever they wanted that being distanced from the connection it once shared to good.

Lydia Pyress had never had to hunt for herself before the death of her makeshift family - she was fed, once it was discovered that it was what she craved, elven blood from the glass, for they meant for her to never to tap a humanoid vein to keep her focus solely on the path to Lichdom. But without her suppliers, Lydia followed a dark instinct that whispered in her ear; a voice distinctly different from her own conscious. Daermon's soul, so old and set in it's ways, made her believe that there was a dire need for blood in her belly once more.

Unknown to anyone but the gods themselves, Lydia only needed elven blood. When Calice had been wounded, she lost all of hers - and, as the old saying goes, the blood is the life. If she aquires enough elven blood in her centuries old body, she may revert from being a vampiric being back to the elleth that she once was; able to feel sunlight and enjoy the taste of brandy once more, as she used to. But led astray by evil forces and her former lover's need for all crimson substance but dragon vein, she remains the creature that she is, neither elf nor vampire entirely.

Description

Lydia Pyress is the child of the elven queen Calenrohil and commoner Casael Greenfae. From both lines she inherited her combination of looks, wit, and skill; perhaps even a habit or two.

Lydia Pyress, formerly Calice Greenfae, is uncommonly tall for her race. Maxing out at a lean height of 5'9", she easily towers over most other female creatures and casts an intimidating shadow where ever she goes. Her legs go on for metaphoric miles, and are toned and strong. As her former self, she would travel by rooftop or tree, utilizing such limbs to her advantage. She has slender, feminine hands, and long, claw-like nails.

Her forehead is noble, neither too large or too small, and void of any wrinkles or other such blemishes. She has finely arched expressive eyebrows that compliment her crystalline, almond shaped eyes and high cheekbones. Her mouth is pert, but not overtly so that it appears too sensual or snide, and is the color of a pale pink rose. Most oftenly she holds her exquisite face expressionless, but she has control over her emotions whereas Calice did not; she extends them and recoils like a snake in order to get what she wants. Though malicious and vindictive, Lydia can appear kind, mannerly, and even charming, and not even the most skilled reader can tell that these appearances are nothing short of a mockery of her true self.

Lydia enjoys elven blood, and though the true reason is hidden from her, she assumes that it is merely a preference. Like her mother before her, Lydia is a creature of carnal thought, and though she hides it well, she appreciates the form of every male within her rage with a disconcerting eye. She is especially attracted to Drows and Avians, and plans to buy one or the other at a slave market.

She is not one for children or overly boisterous men and paladins. Anyone who considers themselves a hero and steps in her way is cut down immediately and humiliatingly. Lydia is a firm believer in the killing of igorants, which is what she considers anyone who challenges her, but since it is up for debate wether or not she can be killed, she is fair and will always settle for some form of payment or fealty for her opponent's loss. But though she is aggressive and powerful, Lydia is confident in her strength to the point that she considers it laughable, or even entertaining to be challenged to fight. She almost never will, in this case, demean herself to another's level - but, if she should find a worthy opponent, then she will make it known who truly is superior.

Before Lydia's transformation from the she-elf known as Calice, she held the gift of foresight and was able to communicate with the dead. And though she did not know it, this was not a mere fluke in her personality; her father held this ability, as did his mother and so on. Neither was her interest in necromancy limited to she alone; her great-great-great grandmother, of who's name she holds one of her three, was a powerful mancer of some sort - presumably fire - and her children were each mages in their own right.

Lydia currently does not know her former identity, and she secretly is searching for one who could possibly remember her face. The animals that Calice loved so dearly and was never parted from - Bregos, Valko - are gone from her, thusly taking with them bits of the reminder of who she once was. In her free time, Lydia comes to Kelay and waits - for what, she doesn't know, but an internal pull always drives her to the tavern to sit in the shadows each day.
